Rotor Pulpers of varying sizes
are subjected to extremely high
rates of wear, particularly on the
leading edges. Any loose or
damaged material is first
removed by hand dressing.
Large areas of wear are then re-
shaped with weld, prior to a final
hardface weld overlay.
This FF400 screw has been badly
worn in service. Where
necessary flights are removed
and replaced with new ones.
After fully welding flights to the
barrel they are proof ground, set
up on the PTA System and
hardfaced with either a Stellite or
tungsten carbide alloy to
increase in-service life.
DCL Surface Engineering can overhaul pumps that
have worn in service. The pump body may need a
wear resistant coating applied to wet areas. Wear
rings may need to be re-machined oversize or
replaced with a sleeve. For pumps working in
extremely erosive conditions a pump volute may
require a metal spray coating of tungsten carbide.

section of solutions including a
range of thermal spray processes
such as Arc Spray and High
Velocity tungsten carbide coatings.
The Spectro Rotor pictured to the
right arrived at our shop in a badly
worn condition. After re-shaping
the teeth and protecting the
leading edges with tool steel the
outside surfaces of the barrel are
grit blasted to a Class 3 White
Metal Finish to AS 1627/4 using
Aluminium Oxide Grit. The blasted
surface is then sprayed with a
hard, wear resistant coating
designed to improve the in-service
life at an economical price.
