Over 70 neighborhood leaders gathered at Mayflower Church in Minneapolis on Thursday, April 30th, 2015 to learn about community solar gardens, including key considerations and specific roles for neighborhoods. This presentation was given by Lissa Pawlisch, CERTs Statewide Director.
Quicksand (quicksand.co.in) co-founder Ayush Chauhan gave this presentation at the annual workshop of the University of Chicago Center in Delhi commemorating the graduating class of International Innovation Corps, a year long fellowship program that sends top student talent to work with Indian government on critical development problems. Ayush’s panel was on 'Last Mile Connectivity' focusing on how successfully piloted solutions and interventions can be effectively rolled out and adopted across the target audience.
Ayush led by saying that the design of good quality, sustainable pilots required program teams to champion the last mile - that moment of truth when all the careful deliberation on systems, policy and enabling institutions meets the consumer. Using Quicksand’s work on the direct benefit transfers project and the urban sanitation project as examples, he demonstrated how an ostensibly powerful, transformative public policy begins to break down when no one champions the end-user.

The delicate supports of the bridge pierce through the brilliant sunset sky. You can see patches of blue sky and golden sunshine escaping through the light fluffy clouds. At the bottom of the photo there is a beautiful silhouette of the London skyline, which helps to boost the creativity and imagination of figure. The contrast between the bridge and the vibrant sky create an interesting arrangement of light and dark, especially with the shadowy city in the background.

The purpose of a Sustainability Plan is to ensure that Ottawa County will be able to maintain its current practices and develop a strategy for future opportunities with an ever-growing population and increasing park use.
The plan identifies goals Ottawa County Parks aspires to accomplish within five years, at which time the plan will be reviewed. The goals are organized into Environmental, Economic, and Social Sustainability. Objectives and actions will be included to specify the exact steps that must be taken in order to reach the indicated goals. The plan will be available to the public to review later this year.

New tools from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Environmental Finance Center Network, and others have been created and updated to assist community water utilities with developing resilience in the face of heightening
threats from both natural hazards and malevolent acts like cyberattacks. COGs, EDDs, RPCs and other regional organizations are well-positioned to serve as technical assistance providers to support these small and rural utilities. During this session, you’ll learn more about resiliency issues facing these systems and hear about readily available capacity building resources as part of the Environmental Finance Center Network’s programs, supported under a
cooperative agreement with US EPA.

Planning for Sustainable Communities: Master Plan Guidance for New Jersey Of...APA-NJ
Since the amendment to the MLUL in 2008 to include the Green Building and Environmental Sustainability Plan element (The Sustainability Plan) in the list of permitted Master Plan elements, towns across New Jersey have been taking sustainability planning more seriously. Especially in the wake of recent extreme weather, the need for short-term resiliency actions and long-term sustainability goals is more pressing than ever.
Therefore, it is with great pleasure that the Sustainability Committee of the NJ Chapter of the American Planning Association announces the release of a sustainability planning guide for planners and municipal officials. The new guide, “Planning for Sustainable Communities: Master Plan Guidance for New Jersey Officials”, deconstructs the traditional master plan and offers new approaches to each of the plan elements with sound local and global examples that any NJ municipality can tailor to their needs.
