Hi Team,
I need to capture all 6 rain ponchos regardless of gender in one URL.
· Searching the site, 6-products return:
http://www.rei.com/search?query=rain+poncho
· Refining from “rain-jackets” to include ponchos, 5-products are returned:
http://www.rei.com/c/rain-jackets?q=rain+ponchos
· The missing product from one URL to the next is this:
http://www.rei.com/product/853869/novara-fells-point-bike-poncho-womens
Yes, it’s categorized in “cycling”, but it sure is cute and if
women saw that, they’d most likely want it vs. the ugly drab
ponchos (:
Any chance we can get the missing product into the mix on this URL
http://www.rei.com/c/rain-jackets?q=rain+ponchos so I can make a collection? We can get
to ponchos by gender, but I am in need of an all-encompassing URL.
Thanks!

Taking what we want from MKTG data to curate collections

‘I am looking for a solar charger & find it impossible to make valid
comparisons because data is not presented in i9dentical format,
data missing on some products, inconsistencies between details
pages and spec pages, and on this page the heading and specs
disagree (5V vs. 12V). I know marketing types like to hype
inconsequential features into indispensable necessities, but you
need to have someone that really knows batteries and battery
charging to review these specs & make sure they are consistent,
real, and meaningful. In the meantime I will try to get what I
need from manufacturer's websites or customer service people. ‘

Editor's Notes

  • #2 What is a Taxonomist?
  • #5 What are some of the ways we go about solving for these problems? Schemas, domain mappings, business rules, search rules, attributes, CVLs, normalization files
  • #6 So much constant change across platforms, data sources, organization structure.
  • #8 IA decisions come in and change the metadata landscape. Discuss two initiatives at REI: Faceting. Split hierarchies. Metadata is SENSITIVE
  • #10  copy teams placed products into these categories as they saw fit.
  • #11 Now we map them, A LOT.
  • #13 Paid search No attribute that can be used to pivot on here. Have to just add it. Regular SEO needs help keep overall categorization well-tuned.
  • #14 Compromises for site search vs paid and natural search There is an attribute to pivot on here.
  • #16  This typifies the house of brands problem My day-to-day battle for you dear users (customers/researchers) Keeping categories correctly populated and specs honest Doing the research on vendor pages etc
  • #17 Any easier problem with good consistent return
  • #18 Mention that not all product copy is searched on product pages because it is too noisy. Find needle in hay and apply.
  • #19 L, LG, LRG, LAR Direct search and browse impact
  • #20 Sometimes size is captured in the actual style and not the variant. X-channel problem because of how the biz functions. A HAIRY PROBLEM. Review broken up as well
  • #22 Ultralight. Just like pornography. You cant really define it but you know it when you see it. One of many attributes that we do not solicit from vendors. We define this one ourselves.
  • #23 Naomi and buying the alarm clock that was not an alarm clock online. This MATTERS. This IS expertise and humans make it relevant and useful.
