2. Types of Primary Research
We made a list of all the types of research methods we
could use to get information about our target audience.

3. Assigning Responsibilities
Once we had made a list of all the research methods
we were going to do, we split them into pairs and
assigned them to each member. I decided to look at
youtube videos and internet statistics.

4. Youtube Videos
When I first took on this responsibility, I planned to
create a series of videos to then publish onto youtube
and create a video survey. However this proved harder
than I first thought, for every option I included for the
user to answer this would multiple the number of future
videos by that number. This is the only way that the
data collected would be useful. I tried to upload the
videos but they were rejected for duplicate uploads so I
decided not to bother and focus on internet research.

5. Internet Statistics
The resource I used for the
internet statistics was the IMDB
Top 50 Thriller Films, I used the
films with over 1000 votes for
more accurate results. I then
noted down which sub-genre
each film was and made a pie
chart, I left out the sub-genres
which had no votes.

6. Results
From the internet statistics we can see that the most
popular sub-genres are Crime ,Conspiracy and
Phycological. Even though this doesn’t give an accurate
result to the target audience, I searched site forums and
found that the majority of users are above 16 years old.
Sub-Genre Number of Films
Conspiracy 4
Crime 11
Legal 2
Mystery 3
Political 1
Phycological 5
Rape and Revenge 1
Supernatural 2
Techno 1

7. Summary
My research has helped the group find out the most
popular sub-genres of the general public. I am lucky
that we have undertaken more than 1 method of
research, once the results are combined we will have a
much clearer picture to base our sub-genre around and
the audience we wish to target. Had the youtube video
survey worked it would have provided better, more
detailed information but the amount of time it would
have taken to produce and upload would have been
too long and the number of viewers may have been
very low.
