Who is Quentin Tarantino? 
• Tarantino is an American film director, screenwriter, cinematographer, 
producer, and actor. 
• His films are known for their non-linear storylines- 
• An aestheticization of violence is often used in his films- however, Tarantino 
does not believe that violence in movies inspires acts of violence in real life. 
• Tarantino uses violence in an extremely graphic way-which has been proven 
to grab the audiences attention however, Tarantino has been harshly 
criticised for his use of gore and blood- some have found this very repulsive. 
• Neo-noir film and Spaghetti Western. 
• Music is an important part of Tarantino's filmmaking style. Tarantino said that 
he would listen to music in his bedroom and create scenes which correlated 
to the music that was being played. 
• Growing up Tarantino was a huge film fanatic and worked in a video rental 
shop- he would observe what people liked to watch and claims that this 
helped him with his directional choices. 
• Tarantino actually features in a lot of his films- he has around 30 acting 
credits, and only 20 writing ones.

• Set in the 1800’s, Django a black slave 
is freed by bounty hunter Dr. King 
Shultz (Christoph Waltz) in order to 
help him with a bounty. Quite quickly, 
Shultz takes Django under his wing 
and trains him as his partner. But he 
made him a promise: that he would 
rescue his wife from a plantation 
owned by the ruthless Calvin Candie 
(Leonardo DiCaprio). And rescuing her 
is not going to be all that easy.

- Although the film was a huge success, it was also 
controversial in many ways- especially for the repetition 
of the word ‘nigger’ however, in an interview Tarantino 
responded by saying ‘As a writer, I demand the right to 
write any character in the world that I want to write. I 
demand the right to be them, I demand the right to think 
them and I demand the right to tell the truth as I see they 
are’
Kill Bill 
Plot: An entire wedding party is slaughtered during a dress 
rehearsal in a rural chapel: the pregnant woman in the blood-splattered 
wedding dress is Black Mamba, better known as The 
Bride. The assassin, Bill, and his circle known as The Vipers left The 
Bride for dead, but unluckily for them she was merely comatose. 
Four years later, The Bride suddenly awakens from her coma and 
realizes what has been done to her. She sets off on a ferociously 
focused mission, setting out to seek revenge on her former master 
and his deadly squad of assassins. One by one, she kills the various 
members of the assassin group. She saves Bill for last.

Uma Thurman was offered the script to Kill Bill, and her role as "The Bride", as a 30th 
Birthday present from Tarantino, and came up with the film’s opening of her beaten 
up and wearing a wedding gown. 
Approximately US$60,000 of the movie's budget was used for producing swords and 
sword accessories. 
On media criticisms of violence in his movies: "Sure, 
Kill Bill's a violent movie. But it's a Tarantino movie. 
You don't go to see Metallica and ask them to turn the 
music down."
