IHC's Med/38 system continued to grow and succeed until 1987 when IHC sold it to GTE. GTE rebranded Med/38 as MedSeries4 and acquired other healthcare IT companies. A few years later, SMS purchased MedSeries4 from GTE and has continued developing the system, now called MedSeries4 and still in use today under Siemens with around 400 hospital clients. The system originates from the 1970s on IBM System/38 hardware and still uses RPG programming language alongside newer technologies.

Screen and Context: Usability in the Postdesktop WorldDoug Gapinski
The era of desktop-first methodologies has ended. According to Google, 90% of consumers now use multiple screens to accomplish tasks on the web. People aren't just visiting your site on phones and desktop computers, they are also using game consoles, laptops, tablets, and other devices. As we enter into the renaissance of the postdesktop web, we must be prepared to boldly alter how we prototype, design, and gather feedback from audiences. Two of the most important factors for current web usability are considering the screen (designing and testing for multiple displays) and context.
JS/Data was a small healthcare IT company founded in 1978 in Rhode Island by John Sacco. It began by developing software for IBM minicomputers and found success selling systems to small, under 100-bed hospitals in New England. By 1983, JS/Data had sold systems to over 200 hospitals and grown to over 100 employees. It offered financial and clinical applications, including support for the new DRG payment system. While the company saw rapid growth in the early 1980s, the summary ends by teasing that the next episode will reveal what ultimately happened to JS/Data.

- Led by Larry Grandia, IHC developed the Med/38 system using the IBM System/38 minicomputer and RPG programming language. It implemented financial systems first, then clinical systems including pharmacy, medical records, and nursing.
- Med/38 saw early success with 70 hospitals purchasing and implementing it within 3 years, including sales to two other multi-hospital systems. This established IHC's IT department, later called Affiliated Services Inc., as a leading hospital IT vendor in the early 1980s.
