Svetlana Masterkova is a Russian middle distance runner born in 1968 who set a world record in the mile in 1996 and won gold medals in the 800m and 1500m at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She had success at other international competitions, winning gold at the 1999 World Championships and 1998 European Championships in the 1500m. Since retiring from running, Masterkova has worked as a sports commentator on Russian television.
