However, despite invaluable experiential learning, students often don\'t comprehend key overarching issues such as health disparities, social determinants of health, health policy and community organizing. To address this gap and optimize their community based work, the Health Disparities Student Collaborative (HDSC), a Boston-based student group under Critical MASS for eliminating health disparities and the Center for Community Health Education Research and Service Inc. (CCHERS), developed a curriculum for students designed to broaden their perspectives while working with local public health, non-profit/community organizations and to develop their interest and ability to visualize the power of their collective voice as students and contributors to social justice work. The curriculum utilizes peer education and webinar software and covers three main topics: Current State of Health Disparities, Social Determinants of Health, and Youth Activism on Health Disparities/Social Determinants of Health. HDSC has collaborated with local partners CCHERS/Critical MASS and the Community Based Public Health Caucus (CBPHC) Youth Council to develop this comprehensive “Health Equality Peer Education” training.

Understanding communities' values is key to building trust and engagement during a time of budget pressures and changing approaches.
Think & Do Camden
We brought people together to develop our strategy Camden 2025 as a vision for the future but also a call to action. We developed the strategy with residents through our citizens assemblies and with anchor institutions that care about the borough through our community challenges.
The climate crisis is an issue that affects all of us and that we all have a role to play as individuals and as organisations. We developed a Citizens’ Assembly on the Climate Crisis which is was the first organised in the country. This brought together over 50 randomly selected residents to deliberate how Camden can best tackle the climate crisis. The assembly heard a range of evidence outlining the facts of the climate crisis and the ways in which it can be tackled. They then developed 17 actions that should be taken by residents, community groups, businesses and the council in Camden. And of one those was “mobilising community groups to address the climate crisis”.
That’s why we’re hosting a space where people will be able to take part in, develop & grow activities to help people live more sustainably…and tackle the climate crisis. As we’re in a climate emergency, we gave ourselves a fortnight to set it up and six weeks to test out, a way that we’re moving from building services to building movements. And when I say we, I don’t mean the council, I mean different individuals from different walks of live who care about Camden and the climate crisis.
MA21 - Real Lives
The Massachusetts Alliance for 21st Century Disability Policy (MA21) was formed with the mission of advancing full community participation for individuals with disabilities. MA21 is a partnership between several advocacy organizations that aims to create a consensus policy framework to improve public policies for people with disabilities and their families.
