What is Development???
Development is becoming educated,
civilized, & include mental & moral
development
Development is an on going process
which is intended to bring about the
welfare of all living beings.
Sustainable development is a
development meets the needs of
the present without compromising
the ability of future generations to
meet their own needs
 ‘Need’- Refers To The Essential Needs Of
Human Beings.
 Pattern Of Development-such That Future
Generations Would Also Be Able To Meet
Their Needs.
Economical Development
 People throughout the world deserve the best
standard of living that is sustainable.
 Sustainable economies also need to be
competitive in a world market. Products that
are too expensive to buy cannot be
sustainable, even if they are environmentally-
friendly.
 Sustainable human activities looks to protect
the Earth's environment to make sure it is not
damaged for future generations.
Planet Earth has a limited amount
of resources. We need clean air,
clean water, land to live on and
also enough productivity to
provide good quality food for all.
 To have a sustainable future, the needs of
people must be met equally, which should be
achieved that does not harm or exploit
others.
•Sustainable development
addresses these needs by
promoting equality, education and
participation in local communities.
It refers to equity within the same
generations should have the same
access to the means of development &
satisfying basic needs
Urban Sustainability
Deforestation
Growing Deserts
Soil Degradation
Loss of Wild Life
Economic Disparity &
Political Instability
Economical stability is essential
for of various programs.
Political support for the
development programs is
necessary for proper result.
More than half of the population in India is
below poverty line.
Undernourishment
It is one of the effect of poverty.
This problem can be solved by solving the
problem of poverty.
Extent of undernourishment..
Extreme Poverty
Before any kind of development needs of
all human being should be fulfilled.
 The past & present generation’s use of fossil
fuels is changing the global climate
 Rise in sea level is already seen in several
areas.
 Future generations are likely to have to live
with severe droughts & floods.
 In the Sundarbans in Bangladesh & India ,the
next generation of people living in low lying
coastal areas can expect to loose their lands.
 Their chances of development are already
reduced by the activities they are not
responsible for
What We Should Do?
Organisations should organize
different programs for sustainable
development.
Individual should take active part
in various programs that are
responsible for welfare of human
being.
There should be proper disposal &
recycling of wastes.
Electricity ,Fossil fuel, Petroleum
& Water should be used very
carefully.
What We Should Do?
What We Should Do?
More efficient energy used & utilizing
energy for renewable resources
More efficient public transport
Water management by appropriate
landscaping
Role of Engineer
Engineer should participate in public
awareness programs
He should develop clean
technologies in developing countries
Major efforts
in reducing
green house
gas emission
which involves
sustainable
energy , new
technology &
energy
efficiency
