About product
“A System for controlling the temperature and humidity of the air in a
building.”
Controlling the temperature is being able to heat and cool. Not only cool.
The air that we breathe is made up of 3 major components all capable of carrying
energy (heat):
1. The component molecular constituents of air: Oxygen (23%), Nitrogen
(76%), Carbon Dioxide (1%) and Inert Gases (1%)
2. Moisture or Water: Water is present in the air at all times, the quantity
present being dependent upon the air temperature. The higher the air
temperature the higher the water (quantity).
3. Airborne Particulate: These are the suspended impurities within the air from
either industrial or natural pollution such as pollen, dust, smoke, germs etc.
As air is the only media that encompasses the whole of our body, we need to
condition this air to provide comfort. The action we need to take is:
1. Control Temperature (heating & cooling) which entails adding energy
(heating) or removing unwanted energy (cooling). General comfort conditions
range between 20 - 25℃
2. Control Humidity (moisture content in the air), either humidify (add
moisture) when dry, which can result in dryness of skin, dry throat and
encourages static build-up) or de-humidify (remove moisture) when the
amount of moisture in the air is high, which can result in breathing discomfort.
Comfort humidity is generally between 30-70 % RH (Relative Humidity).
3. Provide Ventilation to provide the necessary oxygen for breathing and
dispelling carbon dioxide, odor, dust, smoke etc. General ventilation
requirement ranges between 5 - 18 ltr per second per person.
4. Provide Filtration to clean outside and inside air by removing dust, pollen,
etc. Dust in dry air combined with dryness (lack of moisture in the air) is the
main cause of static shocks. Lack of ventilation and filtration combined with
the lack of maintenance is the main causes of Sick Building Syndrome (SBS).
Therefore air conditioning encompasses:
HEATING, COOLING, HUMIDITY CONTROL, VENTILATION,
FILTRATION

General, Japan, has a share of five per cent in the Indian AC market. In the last
four years of its operations, it has sold over 120,000 'General' ACs in Indian
market where it currently offers 20 models.
Currently, the home segment contributes about 60 per cent to the total turnover of
ETA General and the commercial sector accounts for the remaining 40 per cent.
"We expect higher growth in the home sector in the future.
"Window ACs accounts for 70 per cent and split ones for remaining 30 per cent in
the home sector. We see immense growth potential in the split AC segment.

How Air Conditioners Work
 A window air conditioner unit implements a complete air conditioner in a
small space. The units are made small enough to fit into a standard window
frame. You close the window down on the unit, plug it in and turn it on to get
cool air. If you take the cover off of an unplugged window unit, you
 find that it contains:
 A compressor
 An expansion valve
 A hot coil (on the outside)
 A chilled coil (on the inside)
 Two fans
 A control unit
 The fans blow air over the coils to improve their ability to dissipate heat (to the
outside air) and cold (to the room being cooled).
 When you get into larger air conditioning applications, it’s time to start looking
at split system units. A split system air conditioner splits the hot side from the
cold side of the system, as in the diagram below.
 The cold side, consisting of the expansion valve and the cold coil, is generally
placed into a furnace or some other air handler. The air handler blows air
through the coil and routes the air throughout the building using a series of
ducts. The hot side, known as the condensing unit, lives outside the building
 The unit consists of a long, spiral coil shaped like a cylinder. Inside the coil is
a fan, to blow air through the coil, along with a weather resistant compressor
and some control logic. This approach has evolved over the years because it's
low cost, and also because it normally results in reduced noise inside the house
(at the expense of increased noise outside the house). Other than the fact that
the hot and cold sides are split apart and the capacity is higher (making the
coils and compressor larger), there's no difference between a split system and a
window air conditioner.
 In warehouses, large business offices, malls, big department stores and other
sizeable buildings, the condensing unit normally lives on the roof and can be
quite massive. Alternatively, there may be many smaller units on the roof, each
attached inside to a small air handler that cools a specific zone in the building.
In larger buildings and particularly in multistory buildings, the split system
approach begins to run into problems. Either running the pipe between the
condenser and the air handler exceeds distance limitations (runs that are too
long start to cause lubrication difficulties in the compressor), or the amount of
16
duct work and the length of ducts becomes unmanageable. At this point, it's
time to think about a chilled water system.
17
 (R-410A, R-22, R-290, R-134A) gas used for Air Conditioner
While growing up in the 1990s I used to hear a lot about CFCs (or
chlorofluorocarbons) and their involvement in depletion of ozone layer.
There were talks that all the refrigerants that cause environmental harm will
be phased out. But as the years passed by, the thought of checking if a
refrigerator or air conditioner that is being purchased has environmentally
friendly refrigerant or not, vanished, as the presumption was that the CFCs
have been phased out and we only get environmentally friendly refrigerants
these days. But is that true? Or do we really care? In this article we will look
at various refrigerants that are used in air conditioners and refrigerators that
are available in Indian market.
 What is a refrigerant?
A refrigerant is a fluid that is used in air conditioners and refrigerators, to
take heat from the contents of refrigerator or the room (in case of ACs) and throw
the heat out in the atmosphere. A refrigerant undergoes phase changes from a
liquid to gas (on absorbing heat) and back to liquid (when a compressor
compresses it). The choice of ideal refrigerant is made based on: it’s favorable
thermodynamic properties, non-corrosive nature and safety (non-toxic and non-
flammable). Although many fluids can be used to act as refrigerant, but in 20th
century, CFCs became the most popular refrigerants.
18
 What is a split air conditioner?
The most common residential split system air conditioner is an air conditioning
unit made up of two units —an outside unit, the compressor, and an inside air
outlet unit, usually referred to as the “wall hung head unit”. The two units are
connected by pipes that carry refrigerant. An alternative to the standard unit is
them split system, which has multiple indoor units connected to a single outdoor
unit. A split system air conditioner can be used for cooling and heating
19
 What is window air conditioner
Window air conditioner is sometimes referred to as room air conditioner as well. It
is the simplestform of an air conditioning system and is mounted on windows or
walls. It is a single unit that isassembled in a casing where all the components are
located.
This refrigeration unit has a double shaft fan motor with fans mounted on both
sides of the motor. One at the evaporator side and the other at the condenser side.
20
 What is central air conditioner
Central air conditioning is a method of structural cooling in which a centralized
unit cools and dehumidifies air before circulating it throughout a building. This is
in direct contrast with systems that rely on individual units in rooms or suites of
rooms. Central air, as it is also known, is often bundled with a heating system, as
both rely on similar amounts of electrical power and ductwork to distribute cooled
or heated air. This type of air conditioning is generally seen in large structures, or
in homes in extremely hot, humid climates.
21
 What is Packaged Air Conditioners
The window and split air conditioners are usually used for the small air
conditioning capacities up to 5 tons. The central air conditioning systems are used
for where the cooling loads extend beyond 20 tons. The packaged air conditioners
are used for the cooling capacities in between these two extremes. The packaged
air conditioners are available in the fixed rated capacities of 3, 5, 7, 10 and 15 tons.
These units are used commonly in places like restaurants, telephone exchanges,
homes, small halls, etc.
As the name implies, in the packaged air conditioners all the important components
of the air conditioners are enclosed in a single casing like window AC. Thus the
compressor, cooling coil, air handling unit and the air filter are all housed in a
single casing and assembled at the factory location. Depending on the type of the
cooling system used in these systems, the packaged air conditioners are divided
into two types: ones with water cooled condenser and the ones with air cooled
condensers. .

7 About product “A Systemfor controlling the temperature and humidity of the air in a building.” Controlling the temperature is being able to heat and cool. Not only cool. The air that we breathe is made up of 3 major components all capable of carrying energy (heat): 1. The component molecular constituents of air: Oxygen (23%), Nitrogen (76%), Carbon Dioxide (1%) and Inert Gases (1%) 2. Moisture or Water: Water is present in the air at all times, the quantity present being dependent upon the air temperature. The higher the air temperature the higher the water (quantity). 3. Airborne Particulate: These are the suspended impurities within the air from either industrial or natural pollution such as pollen, dust, smoke, germs etc. As air is the only media that encompasses the whole of our body, we need to condition this air to provide comfort. The action we need to take is: 1. Control Temperature (heating & cooling) which entails adding energy (heating) or removing unwanted energy (cooling). General comfort conditions range between 20 - 25℃ 2. Control Humidity (moisture content in the air), either humidify (add moisture) when dry, which can result in dryness of skin, dry throat and encourages static build-up) or de-humidify (remove moisture) when the amount of moisture in the air is high, which can result in breathing discomfort. Comfort humidity is generally between 30-70 % RH (Relative Humidity). 3. Provide Ventilation to provide the necessary oxygen for breathing and dispelling carbon dioxide, odor, dust, smoke etc. General ventilation requirement ranges between 5 - 18 ltr per second per person. 4. Provide Filtration to clean outside and inside air by removing dust, pollen, etc. Dust in dry air combined with dryness (lack of moisture in the air) is the main cause of static shocks. Lack of ventilation and filtration combined with the lack of maintenance is the main causes of Sick Building Syndrome (SBS). Therefore air conditioning encompasses: HEATING, COOLING, HUMIDITY CONTROL, VENTILATION, FILTRATION

15 How Air ConditionersWork  A window air conditioner unit implements a complete air conditioner in a small space. The units are made small enough to fit into a standard window frame. You close the window down on the unit, plug it in and turn it on to get cool air. If you take the cover off of an unplugged window unit, you  find that it contains:  A compressor  An expansion valve  A hot coil (on the outside)  A chilled coil (on the inside)  Two fans  A control unit  The fans blow air over the coils to improve their ability to dissipate heat (to the outside air) and cold (to the room being cooled).  When you get into larger air conditioning applications, it’s time to start looking at split system units. A split system air conditioner splits the hot side from the cold side of the system, as in the diagram below.  The cold side, consisting of the expansion valve and the cold coil, is generally placed into a furnace or some other air handler. The air handler blows air through the coil and routes the air throughout the building using a series of ducts. The hot side, known as the condensing unit, lives outside the building  The unit consists of a long, spiral coil shaped like a cylinder. Inside the coil is a fan, to blow air through the coil, along with a weather resistant compressor and some control logic. This approach has evolved over the years because it's low cost, and also because it normally results in reduced noise inside the house (at the expense of increased noise outside the house). Other than the fact that the hot and cold sides are split apart and the capacity is higher (making the coils and compressor larger), there's no difference between a split system and a window air conditioner.  In warehouses, large business offices, malls, big department stores and other sizeable buildings, the condensing unit normally lives on the roof and can be quite massive. Alternatively, there may be many smaller units on the roof, each attached inside to a small air handler that cools a specific zone in the building. In larger buildings and particularly in multistory buildings, the split system approach begins to run into problems. Either running the pipe between the condenser and the air handler exceeds distance limitations (runs that are too long start to cause lubrication difficulties in the compressor), or the amount of

16 duct work andthe length of ducts becomes unmanageable. At this point, it's time to think about a chilled water system.

17  (R-410A, R-22,R-290, R-134A) gas used for Air Conditioner While growing up in the 1990s I used to hear a lot about CFCs (or chlorofluorocarbons) and their involvement in depletion of ozone layer. There were talks that all the refrigerants that cause environmental harm will be phased out. But as the years passed by, the thought of checking if a refrigerator or air conditioner that is being purchased has environmentally friendly refrigerant or not, vanished, as the presumption was that the CFCs have been phased out and we only get environmentally friendly refrigerants these days. But is that true? Or do we really care? In this article we will look at various refrigerants that are used in air conditioners and refrigerators that are available in Indian market.  What is a refrigerant? A refrigerant is a fluid that is used in air conditioners and refrigerators, to take heat from the contents of refrigerator or the room (in case of ACs) and throw the heat out in the atmosphere. A refrigerant undergoes phase changes from a liquid to gas (on absorbing heat) and back to liquid (when a compressor compresses it). The choice of ideal refrigerant is made based on: it’s favorable thermodynamic properties, non-corrosive nature and safety (non-toxic and non- flammable). Although many fluids can be used to act as refrigerant, but in 20th century, CFCs became the most popular refrigerants.

18  What isa split air conditioner? The most common residential split system air conditioner is an air conditioning unit made up of two units —an outside unit, the compressor, and an inside air outlet unit, usually referred to as the “wall hung head unit”. The two units are connected by pipes that carry refrigerant. An alternative to the standard unit is them split system, which has multiple indoor units connected to a single outdoor unit. A split system air conditioner can be used for cooling and heating

19  What iswindow air conditioner Window air conditioner is sometimes referred to as room air conditioner as well. It is the simplestform of an air conditioning system and is mounted on windows or walls. It is a single unit that isassembled in a casing where all the components are located. This refrigeration unit has a double shaft fan motor with fans mounted on both sides of the motor. One at the evaporator side and the other at the condenser side.
  • 20.
20  What iscentral air conditioner Central air conditioning is a method of structural cooling in which a centralized unit cools and dehumidifies air before circulating it throughout a building. This is in direct contrast with systems that rely on individual units in rooms or suites of rooms. Central air, as it is also known, is often bundled with a heating system, as both rely on similar amounts of electrical power and ductwork to distribute cooled or heated air. This type of air conditioning is generally seen in large structures, or in homes in extremely hot, humid climates.
  • 21.
21  What isPackaged Air Conditioners The window and split air conditioners are usually used for the small air conditioning capacities up to 5 tons. The central air conditioning systems are used for where the cooling loads extend beyond 20 tons. The packaged air conditioners are used for the cooling capacities in between these two extremes. The packaged air conditioners are available in the fixed rated capacities of 3, 5, 7, 10 and 15 tons. These units are used commonly in places like restaurants, telephone exchanges, homes, small halls, etc. As the name implies, in the packaged air conditioners all the important components of the air conditioners are enclosed in a single casing like window AC. Thus the compressor, cooling coil, air handling unit and the air filter are all housed in a single casing and assembled at the factory location. Depending on the type of the cooling system used in these systems, the packaged air conditioners are divided into two types: ones with water cooled condenser and the ones with air cooled condensers. .
