You see the first task of the PTE Writing section after you complete the PTE Speaking part:
SummarizeWritten Text. Despite PTE Speaking and Writing being combined in one
section, they are separately scored and you willreceive a breakdownfor both skills.
Therefore, when you see SummarizeWritten Text on the screen, it showsa reading text
that you must summarize into a single sentence between five and seventyfive words. There
is a 150 to 200 word reading passage, which isallocated 10 minutes. The overall time for
the PTE writing section dependson the number of questionsyou receive on the test. For
example, if you get 2 SummarizeWritten Text questions and 1 Write Essay questions, then
in total you will have 40 minutes to complete the writing section. Therefore, your focus
should be on summarizing the given passage into one complex sentence.
SummarizeWritten Text PTE requiresthe studentto make a single sentence that uses
compound structure and iscomplex, meaning thatit will have a main clause and one or
more supporting clauses. If you don'thave good reading skills, you should first practice
improving them. To SummarizeWritten Text, you mustbe able to read fast and
understand the passage well, which means you must improve your reading skills. Next, you
must make good notes from your reading, in which you should note down 6-8 keywords
and key phrases. Other than the keywords, you also need to note down the centralor main
idea of the passage, the theme on which the topic is based. SummarizeWritten Text Tips
Step 2 is to combine these phrasesand keywordsinto one sentence. Normally, we
encourage testtakersto follow their own style of writing, butif you are unsure aboutyour
ability to understand the English language, you may also apply one of our Templates.
You can choose between two typesof SummarizeWritten Text Templates, depending on
how capable you are in English and whatare your targetscores. The first is for people who
need an English proficiency of 40 to 60; the second is intended for those who need 60 to 80.
We recommend studentswith good English language skills to write their own sentence
following our strategy, asit will help them to maximize their writing scores, regardlessof
the approach you choose, you should still have your answerschecked by an experienced
PTE examiner.
