1. Suggestopedia’s Reflection
This presentation was my second assignment in the course. It was
focused on a very interesting approach called Suggestopedia, which mainly
promotes relaxation and music involvement for the learning process. It also
included a conceptual map, where a classmate and I had to summarize the
main ideas and techniques used in this approach.
By providing an example of the typical class for this approach I could
learn strategies for making my lessons more relaxed but entertaining at the
same time. I strongly believe that the use of music is useful not only to provide
context but also for engaging the learners, and if I add other techniques such as
deep breathing this will result in an accurate and unique lesson that they are not
going to forget and in which they are going to feel comfortable.
I precisely liked this kind of approach, basically because it implies
creating a positive environment for the right acquisition of a new language. First,
I have to assimilate the information as my students do, and then we analyze the
meaning together. For the same reason, I think it is important to stimulate
students and add emotional meaning to what they are going to learn, so I
ensure that the information I will transmit will stay in their long-term memory for
a long time. I believe this kind of activities really work, even though they might
require a little more time.
