A public-private partnership in Uganda developed a Vitamin A fortified peanut spread called Nutri-Nut to address vitamin A deficiency in children. Researchers from Makerere University and the Peanut CRSP team worked with a small company called Food Engravers to enhance an existing peanut spread formulation using stabilizers for longer shelf life and fortification instead of more expensive ingredients. Consumer tests at a trade show found the new Nutri-Nut spread was very acceptable to consumers in taste and purchase intent.
