- #4 Development CommunitiesCollabNet's start in 1999 was deeply rooted in the Open Source community, where the company founders first saw the powerful advantages of open source collaborative development over the internet versus the LAN-based and disconnected tools used in traditional enterprise development, CollabNet extended these open source community development tools and processes into a single, web-based, hosted software environment that could be shared by distributed teams; i.e., industry’s first distributed cloud-based software as a service offering.
