Platform-as-a-Service has rightly been celebrated as a way to increase developer productivity and thereby help companies get the new applications and services they need online (and making money) faster. It also helps admins meet the needs of those developers faster and with less manual effort. But PaaS goes beyond developers and beyond dev/test. Efficient application multi-tenancy and auto-scaling are also key features for production environments. Furthermore, developers may love that PaaS abstracts away platform details that they don't care about. But this abstraction also means that platform changes can happen without affecting developers, a big win for architects and procurement officers. In short, PaaS is for everyone.

The biggest challenge to effective agile development in a distributed environment lies in maintaining the same level of communication and the same level of access to your Subversion repositories that’s possible when everyone works from one location. The implementation architecture and the tools you choose to support distributed development can either help or hurt.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Development CommunitiesCollabNet's start in 1999 was deeply rooted in the Open Source community, where the company founders first saw the powerful advantages of open source collaborative development over the internet versus the LAN-based and disconnected tools used in traditional enterprise development, CollabNet extended these open source community development tools and processes into a single, web-based, hosted software environment that could be shared by distributed teams; i.e., industry’s first distributed cloud-based software as a service offering. Realizing the fundamental need for a modern web-based SCM application that would scale to support these distributed needs of the enterprise, CollabNet founded and released Subversion in 2000 as an open source solution. Through CollabNet's stewardship, Subversion now has over 50 percent of market share.ALMBy the mid-2000s, structured software development processes such as Application Lifecycle Management began to take hold in industry. Taking the lead, CollabNet integrated an acquired product, SourceForge, with its own CollabNet Enterprise Edition platform. From the fusion of these two products in 2007 came TeamForge—today the leading industry enterprise ALM platform, available in both public and on-premise cloud deployment. With the release of TeamForge, the company added rich ALM Build capability (Hudson/Jenkins), Application Release Management, as well as Lab Management, a Cloud-based service that provides self-service profile and server provisioning to distributed development, build, test, and deployment teams. Leveraging TeamForge’s openness and its unique ability to drive common enterprise wide development practices, clients leveraged the TeamForge API’s to extend ALM to implement end-to-end development through operations (DEVOPS) collaboration.AgileEarly on, CollabNet recognized that many of the key features of Agile—collaboration, transparency, constant feedback—mirrored Open Source capabilities. Adding agile functionality to TeamForge, CollabNet integrated dynamic planning capabilities in 2009. Further, responding to the requests of users for an Agile-oriented project management capability, the company acquired Danube Technologies and integrated ScrumWorks, a leading Agile project management tool, into the TeamForge platform. At the same time, Danube brought to CollabNet a world-class scrum training curriculum delivered by the largest number of certified Scrum trainers working for a single commercial organization. Combined with CollabNet's enterprise distributed development consulting team, CollabNet now uniquely provides agile transformation services from the workgroup to the enterprise.Cloud PlatformHaving invented distributed Cloud-based software development as a service back in 1999, CollabNet was best positioned to take this concept to the next level. In 2010, as industry interest and demand for Cloud development solutions grew, CollabNet acquired Codesion, a leading Cloud-based software development and deployment platform that expanded the breadth of development tools that CollabNet could provision in the cloud. By integrating Codesion’s public cloud hosting with CollabNet's TeamForge private cloud offering, CollabNet created a powerful, instant-on development and deployment capability that scales from SMBs to Fortune 500 organizations.Hybrid CloudToday, the convergence of three large scale industry trends—agile, the integration of development and operations, and the use of external clouds—are converging to create an unprecedented wave of opportunity for the enterprise, and at the same time, a surge of development, cost, and visibility issues for management. To address this need, CollabNet released CloudForge in 2012, which combines the IP and years of operational experience in managing an “always on” public cloud hosting business, with expertise gained from serving the complex, stringent needs of Enterprise. The result is an easy to use, flexible platform that integrates with Subversion, TeamForge, and a wide range of hybrid development and deployment services. Essentially, CollabNet has created industry’s first front end platform to orchestrate a range of public or private Cloud-based development and deployment environments that meet the needs of any industry. Accordingly, CollabNet is now leading the industry shift in Enterprise Cloud Development.
CollabNet founded and open-sourced Subversion in 2000 to address the industry demand for a scalable and web-based SCM application for the distributed enterprise. Through CollabNet's decade of stewardship, Subversion has gained over 50% of the SCM market.Subversion Edge includes a free fully-automated installer/updater for software stacks of Subversion, Apache, and ViewVC, fronted by a powerful web console for administration and server health check monitoring.Subversion Edge provides the essential capabilities to manage your Subversion needs from the workgroup to across the enterprise:Install and Update: Certified binaries, wizard driven installers with 1-click updatesRepository Management: Create, manage, browse, and local backupUser Management: Manage roles, permissions and access rulesAdministration: Authentication, server management and health analyticsDesktops & IDEs: Eclipse, Visual Studio, AnkhSVN, Subclipse, and moreCloud Services: Public cloud backup and restore to CollabNet CloudForgeTeamForge: Adds multi-server Subversion replication, code governance, improved network performance, as well as Agile ALM through DevOpsFree and commercial plans to securely back up your on-premise Subversion repositories in the CollabNet public cloud (CloudForge) are also available.
