3.  Recently, SubSea Engineering announced
that it had acquired the technology of the
Hyper-Sub, a high-efficiency submersible
vehicle with several potential military and
commercial applications. The Hyper-Sub
can deploy from shore and is capable of
submerging on demand. In addition, the
craft can launch without the expensive
support vessels and large numbers of crew
members required for traditional
submarines.

4.  The Hyper-Sub’s unique capabilities make it
particularly useful for military and law
enforcement agencies in the areas of port
security and shoreline defense and
detection. The oil and gas industry also
stands to benefit as the craft can be used
in the place of unmanned submersibles to
identify undersea problems quickly.
Production will begin in 2015, and the first
vessels will ultimately be delivered in 2016.
