In "Alienable" about a young woman in her 20s who has recently ended a two-year relationship and is trying to console with her friend, Jay, until she realizes people are shielding themselves from the sun like they do not know it is not raining, Yuko Sakata suggests that in relationships it, at times, can be difficult to connect with the other person since people often have differing desires and can change in ways that become incompatible with each other.

Scenario One
Joanna Spring always insisted that she did not ever want to be kept alive by machines, and even stated that when she was a young teenager. Her parents understood her feelings on the subject. Joanna married Bill Spring and one month later, was involved in an auto accident which left her in a persistent vegetative state. Joanna’s parents (Mr. and Mrs. John Winters) have sued to have Joanna taken off life support. Joanna’s husband refused to allow the hospital to do so. Joanna’s parents thing that it is only because he will not inherit Joanna’s huge estate unless he has been married to her for more than two years. The court sided with Bill Spring, and refused to order the removal of life support. The Winters now want to appeal the decision and let Joanna die in peace before bill becomes Joanna’s heir.
Scenario Two
Shirley Baker is a young woman suffering from breast cancer. She has been on chemotherapy for several months, and has experienced terrible side-effects. She did receive a prescription for the medicinal use of marijuana while living in California, but moved to Oklahoma to be closer to her family. She did take several ounces of marijuana with her when she moved, and was arrested while smoking marijuana on the front porch of her parent’s home, the evening she arrived in Oklahoma. She was convicted of illegal possession of the drug, and wants to appeal her conviction.
Scenario Three
Joe Valle and Fred Hamper have been partners for many years. When same sex unions became legal in California, they moved there just long enough to be “married,” and then returned to their home in New Mexico. Joe applied for health insurance for himself and his “spouse.” The insurance company refused to recognize the “marriage,’ and Joe and Fred sued. The trial court found in favor of Big Time Insurance Company, and Joe and Fred want to appeal.

Flora Findley loves plants. She had become interested in hydroponics and hybridizing plants. She began growing plants under full-spectrum sunlight lamps in her home. She also has a teenaged son who expressed an interest in growing plants. She was pleased that she and her son could share an interest. One day, a police officer investigating a burglary next door, came to Flora’s home to ask if she had seen anything. He noticed all of the plants growing under the lamps, and quickly began inspecting them. He found a small plant that he thought was marijuana, and promptly arrested Flora. Flora was convicted for possession, but insisted that the search of her home was unwarranted. She wants to appeal the decision.

Good tutors enhance the prospective of technology to establish learners’ knowledge ,
promote interest & improve skill in maths (Baglama, Yikmis, & Demirok, 2017 )
Teachers who employ technology purposefully provide wider access to mathematics for
all learners.
Technological tools include those that are both content specific and content neutral. In
mathematics education, content-specific technologies include computer algebra systems;
dynamic geometry environments; interactive applets; handheld computation, data
collection, and analysis devices; and computer-based applications. These technologies
support students in exploring and identifying mathematical concepts and relationships.
Content-neutral technologies include communication and collaboration tools and Web-
based digital media, and these technologies increase students' access to information,
ideas, and interactions that can support and enhance sense making, which is central to
the process of taking ownership of knowledge. Findings from a number of studies have
shown that the strategic use of technological tools can support both the learning of
mathematical procedures and skills as well as the development of advanced
mathematical proficiencies, such as problem solving, reasoning, and justifying (e.g.,
Gadanidis & Geiger, 2010; Kastberg & Leatham, 2005; Nelson, Christopher, & Mims, 2009;
Pierce & Stacey, 2010; Roschelle, et al., 2009, 2010; Suh & Moyer, 2007).

Patient education involves a process where health professionals give knowledge and
educate both the caregivers and the patients on how they should adjust their health behaviors to
improve their health status and of those other people next to them. A caregiver who has
undergone patient education is likely to give proper and quality care to the patients. This paper
focuses on explaining how patient education influences how care is provided in a health care
system or facility. To achieve this, the essay involves an interview process of an older person
where personal experiences about the health care system are well given. The part of the interview
is to ask questions concerning the patient's experience with their healthcare professional and the
type of education they received about their current or past health issues. Therefore, the

Scenario One
Joanna Spring always insisted that she did not ever want to be kept alive by machines, and even stated that when she was a young teenager. Her parents understood her feelings on the subject. Joanna married Bill Spring and one month later, was involved in an auto accident which left her in a persistent vegetative state. Joanna’s parents (Mr. and Mrs. John Winters) have sued to have Joanna taken off life support. Joanna’s husband refused to allow the hospital to do so. Joanna’s parents thing that it is only because he will not inherit Joanna’s huge estate unless he has been married to her for more than two years. The court sided with Bill Spring, and refused to order the removal of life support. The Winters now want to appeal the decision and let Joanna die in peace before bill becomes Joanna’s heir.

Shirley Baker is a young woman suffering from breast cancer. She has been on chemotherapy for several months, and has experienced terrible side-effects. She did receive a prescription for the medicinal use of marijuana while living in California, but moved to Oklahoma to be closer to her family. She did take several ounces of marijuana with her when she moved, and was arrested while smoking marijuana on the front porch of her parent’s home, the evening she arrived in Oklahoma. She was convicted of illegal possession of the drug, and wants to appeal her conviction.

Joe Valle and Fred Hamper have been partners for many years. When same sex unions became legal in California, they moved there just long enough to be “married,” and then returned to their home in New Mexico. Joe applied for health insurance for himself and his “spouse.” The insurance company refused to recognize the “marriage,’ and Joe and Fred sued. The trial court found in favor of Big Time Insurance Company, and Joe and Fred want to appeal.

Flora Findley loves plants. She had become interested in hydroponics and hybridizing plants. She began growing plants under full-spectrum sunlight lamps in her home. Technology in Teaching Maths
It is important for students & teachers to have frequent contact with technology that
enhance & advance:
Reasoning
Sense making
Problem solving
Communication (Baglama, Yikmis, & Demirok, 2017 )
Good tutors enhance the prospective of technology to establish learners’ knowledge ,
promote interest & improve skill in maths (Baglama, Yikmis, & Demirok, 2017 )
Teachers who employ technology purposefully provide wider access to mathematics for
all learners.
Technological tools include those that are both content specific and content neutral. In
mathematics education, content-specific technologies include computer algebra systems;
dynamic geometry environments; interactive applets; handheld computation, data
collection, and analysis devices; and computer-based applications. These technologies
support students in exploring and identifying mathematical concepts and relationships.
Content-neutral technologies include communication and collaboration tools and Web-
based digital media, and these technologies increase students' access to information,
ideas, and interactions that can support and enhance sense making, which is central to
the process of taking ownership of knowledge. Findings from a number of studies have
shown that the strategic use of technological tools can support both the learning of
mathematical procedures and skills as well as the development of advanced
mathematical proficiencies, such as problem solving, reasoning, and justifying (e.g.,
Gadanidis & Geiger, 2010; Kastberg & Leatham, 2005; Nelson, Christopher, & Mims, 2009;
Pierce & Stacey, 2010; Roschelle, et al., 2009, 2010; Suh & Moyer, 2007).

Technology enhances the learning process by making math concepts interactive through
media.
Provides alternate methods to instructional strategies such as videos, movies, games,
research etc.
Customized Learning Experiences – Students can view topics and study at their own pace
and assistance is there if needed

Patient education involves a process where health professionals give knowledge and
educate both the caregivers and the patients on how they should adjust their health behaviors to
improve their health status and of those other people next to them. A caregiver who has
undergone patient education is likely to give proper and quality care to the patients. This paper
focuses on explaining how patient education influences how care is provided in a health care
system or facility. To achieve this, the essay involves an interview process of an older person
where personal experiences about the health care system are well given. The part of the interview
is to ask questions concerning the patient's experience with their healthcare professional and the
type of education they received about their current or past health issues. Therefore, the
interviewee for this case, is Mr. Joseph Henning, an old man aged 71 years old. Joseph was
recently diagnosed with diabetes. He has had several health issues in the past which has had both
good and bad outcomes based on the healthcare professionals educating styles and applications
in relation to proper health care.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
