an elder of the congregation in Barry, Wales, the church conducted an internal investigation of the allegations,
where the women and children had to face their alleged abuser in judicial committee hearings. A child victim,
for whom Sewell was later convicted of rape, alleged that she was questioned closely by church elders when
she came forward years after the attack, and was required to describe the incident to them in intimate detail,
with Sewell present, but her claims were dismissed by the committee and not taken to the police for further
