Study Guide Block Growth and Development


                                              CURRICULUM

Aims:
á To assess growth and development in children and adolescents.
á To diagnose, manage, and refer if required, common disorders of growth and
  development.
á Awareness of the general means to assess fetal growth (intrauterine growth).
á Awareness of the common health implications of normal and abnormal aging.


Learning outcomes:
á   Assess physical growth of children and adolescents.
á   Diagnose and manage common nutritional problems in children and adolescents.
á   Investigate infant or child with suspect failure to thrive.
á   Identify common congenital anomalies in infants and children.
á   Assess fetal growth (intrauterine growth).
á   Assess development of children in specific domains.
á   Awareness of common developmental disorders in children.
á   Awareness of the normal sexual developmental sequence in children and
    adolescents.
á   Capability to evaluate critically the use of medicine in pregnancy, children, and
    elderly.
á   Detection of developmental deviation in children (Screening & Stimulation).
á   Awareness of the impacts of aging on the common health parameters of the elderly.
á   Awareness of the common clinical manifestations and disorders in the elderly.
á   Diagnose and manage common health problems and disorders in the elderly.


Curriculum contents:
á   Normal growth patterns in children and adolescents.
á   Nutritional impacts on growth (and development) in infant, children and adolescents.
á   Clinical manifestations and diagnosis of failure to thrive.
á   Common congenital anomalies in infants and young children.
á   Clinical assessment of intrauterine growth (fetal growth).
á   Drug recommendation and toxicity on pregnancy and Children.
á   Assess development of children and adolescents in specific domains.
á   Methods of developmental deviation detection and stimulation.
á   Common developmental disorders in children and adolescents.
á   Diagnose common sexual developmental problems in children and adolescents.
á   Aging and physiologic changes in health parameters.
á   Common clinical manifestations and problems and management in the elderly.
