The student thanks their professor for an informative public health class at CSUMB. They found the speakers and wellness project engaging and it sparked further interest in public health. The cultural assessment and program planning helped them improve presentation and writing skills. The professor created a welcoming learning environment. The student will pursue speech pathology and public health in graduate school and asks the professor to be a reference.

1. Good Afternoon Professor Long,
I know the semester is long over, but I wanted to thank you for a fun semester at CSUMB. I had no idea
what to expect coming from a large university in a bigger city. The speakers that you brought to class
were all extremely informational and has definitely sparked further interest into the Public Health field for
me. I also thought the wellness program was a great project, especially as I have been able to continue it
throughout the summer. The cultural assessment and program planning really did help me to become a
better student. I felt more comfortable than ever before when stepping in front of the class for a
presentation, as well as writing longer papers in an organized and systematic manner. Aside from the
classwork, I want to say that I appreciated your welcoming and uplifting attitude during class each week. I
definitely looked forward to this class each week more than any of my other classes.
This fall I return to the University of Minnesota to continue my pursuit of a major in Speech-Language-
Hearing Sciences and a minor in Public Health. In the next few months I will be writing applications for
graduate school. I would appreciate so much if you would be a reference on these applications. The
experience and success that you have had in your field are extremely admirable. Your experiences have
pushed me to strive for my dreams in so many ways.
Thank you so much for the great experience I had at CSUMB.
Thanks again,
Katie Anderson

Hello Michelle,
Thank you for a wonderful semester. You provided a wonderful learning environment while being
presented a challenge from the start.
I really was able to learn a lot with such a mixed class and your consistent support to see all sides of
culture and collaboration.
Thank you for working so hard to provide such a great space to learn, interact, collaborate and succeed. I
don't imagine it was easy and you did a great job.
Sharing your stories of field experience is price less and I respectfully encourage you to keep doing it. As
a CHHS student I learn a lot from the stories of experience like the ones you shared. (Hurricane Iniki was
my hometown favorite!!)
Sincerely,
Eric Scarr
