This course introduces students to landscape architecture, which uses art and science to design useful and meaningful outdoor spaces. Students will learn a purposeful approach to designing spaces for human use. Using models, case studies, readings, and discussions, students will explore how to use landforms, vegetation, and structures to define space physically and emotionally. Students will start with basic design principles and apply metaphor to shape spaces. They will integrate their ideas to design a final urban park/plaza site plan.
