   The most popular female of the late pre-
    Hispanic and early colonial history of
    Mexico.
   She lived in Aztec capital “Tenochitlan.”
    Which was modern day Mexico City.
   The time she lived was 1509-1551
   She was known as the “Aztec Princess.”
   She was married off and given one of the
    biggest encomienda in the valley of Mexico.
   Converted into being catholic by Cortez and
    she became very religious and was very
    involved in the Church.

   Was a priest who was assigned to convert
    towards a group of natives to worship the

  survive during the colonial
  economy with sugar plantations
  and silver mines
   They were mulatto slaves, from the colony of
    New Spain
   The contributed a lot effort in there lives to
    dismantle the restrictive colonial labor
    system.
   Juan sold himself to the devil and prayed to
    the devil so his master could treat him better.
    He also learned how to read and write
   Gertrudis de Escobar- Was a servant to a nun
    and accepted to God many times and for
    punishment was sent out to the sugar
    plantations and was forced to be close to
    priests
   She always tried to escape from the
    plantation and got punished for it.
   They were very gifted individuals
 They  also worked around African

 They lived during the middle of
  the 17th century which was
  difficult for slaves to be surviving
  in because of harsh living
  conditions and labor, the Spanish
  enforced on them.

   It was important to the natives that her
    presence was around the villages.
