PRESS RELEASE
THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Oct. 18, 2014 – Even in the middle of the most serious recession
this country has seen since the Great Depression, the generous American spirit has
continued to grow and inspire a new generation of people willing to give back. If you can
believe it, North Carolina’s annual charitable giving has gone up 2% in the last five years
according to the National Center for Charitable Statistics, in spite of the state’s
unemployment rate reaching an all time high of 11.3% in 2010. It is truly remarkable to
see the community pulling together to support nonprofits in this difficult financial
climate, and that seems to be the trend across the country.
However, it seems to slip off the radar that there are more ways to give back to a
nonprofit than just monetary contributions. As a college student, High Point University
senior Zach Hynoski is not letting student loans get in the way of him giving back to
nonprofits he believes in and is encouraging others not to let the recession get in the way
of giving back to nonprofits they believe in. “I’ve never seen not having money to give as
an obstacle,” Hynoski said, “I prefer to donate my time and talents to organizations
because you can see the tangible results of working side-by-side with the nonprofit team
and you build great relationships.” Hynoski is currently focusing his philanthropic efforts
on a brand new global nonprofit based out of North Carolina, Global Scribes. “When I

heard the concept behind Global Scribes I knew I wanted to be a part of the team that
helped it grow from the ground up. It’s an amazing organization that is focusing on a
major hot-button issue in our society.” The cause? Global citizenship and cultural
understanding. Global Scribes is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to promoting a
globally minded generation through the power of the written word and international
friendships. “I learned a lot about donating my time through my work with Habitat for
Humanity, but this is a whole new challenge working with a brand new organization,”
chuckled Hynoski who is currently applying his talents through his Strategic
Communications major to create promotional videos for Global Scribes. “I think that
while organizations like Global Scribes certainly do need monetary donations, giving of
your time and talents is a gift that gives back to you as well as the organization. I’ve
learned a lot and I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.”
