Actions can support or
deny access to rights and
opportunities
Central Idea
What you do can either help somebody or
harm somebody’s connection to their rights
and opportunities.
Central Idea in my own words
This is a old building in Yau Ma Tei.
The door is not safely guarded and
children do live here which is denying
Article 4: The government has a
responsibility to make sure your rights
are protected. They must help your
family to protect your rights and
create a environment where you can
grow and reach your potential. It is
denying this right because it is not an
environment where children can grow.
This is a staircase of the building
where polluted air and hot sunlight
comes in. It has a lot of rubbish in the
staircase which can lead to sicknesses.
I also think that it is denying Article 4
because it is a dirty environment
where it is also small which also means
that children are not brought up in a
safe environment where they cannot
reach their full potential.
This is a picture of the excess of
electrical wiring on the walls and it is
very dangerous because of the wires
popping out. There is a big risk of
starting a electrical fire and since
the fire escape being boarded up it is
highly unsafe for residents. If a child
lives here then it is offending Article
4 because it is not a safe
environment where children can
reach their full potential.
This is a picture of the old
subdivided units main door.
Notice that o the door it is
not safely guarded. Children
live in this places without any
security, so burglars and
drunk people can be around, so
it is not a safe environment
for children.
This is a toilet where the residents all
share . It is very dirty because nobody
cleans it. It is very unhygienic because it
can spread diseases quickly, because
everybody shares it and if a child lived
here it is offending Article 24 because
this is not a safe environment for you to
stay well.
This is the view from the bedroom
window. The building traps the
polluted air so the hot air and pollution
comes in. When you look to the right
side you can see a lot of flashing lights
and at night .It is denying the right to
article 16 because people can see what
you are doing and also the people in
the nightclubs can see what you are
doing.
This is where people who rent the
subdivided unit sleep. There is bed bugs
and also no mattress so it is dirty and
uncomfortable. It is denying the right of a
clean environment and also the right to
rest because they cannot rest in a hard
and also a place filled with bugs.
This is the wall of the structure. It
is badly maintained so that the wall
might fall. The building’s structure
might be broken or wearing
down .It is offending the right of
article 24 because it is not a safe
and clean environment.
Why this connects with the central idea
This connects with the central idea because
the actions of the landlord can deny access
to rights because of living conditions in Hong
Kong. It can also deny access to
opportunities because of the way that they
do not have space and also because there is
no space to do thing to change your
opportunities.
