2. A graduate in Electronics and Telecommunication, he has been working in this company since his graduation. His profile demands working round the clock – to monitor real time data from the mobile systems embedded on the BP trucks, assimilate and analyze the data, create forecasts and optimize resources. Dhaval , 26, is a backend support executive working with Bharat Petroleum (BP) for the last 3 years.
3. A seasoned professional, he has embraced the technology initiatives implemented by BP in last few years. Rajesh was the first to realize how the company’s real-time tracking and sensing system could make his job easier and benefit the company at the same time Rajesh , 43, has been working as a driver with Bharat Petroleum for the last 15 years.
4. He fills his tanker and has the details and maps of destinations to deliver the petrol. Today his stops are 3 petrol stations inside a city and 2 stations located on the highway. Going inside a city during peak traffic hours and getting back on the highway is a time consuming and daunting task for Rajesh. On a typical day, Rajesh disburses petrol from the BP Refueling Center to 5 distant locations .
5. Once the filling is complete, Ubiq sends an intimation to Dhaval and Rajesh. Rajesh receives a confirmation SMS on his mobile Rajesh to proceed to locations where petrol needs to be disbursed. The petrol is being filled in the tanker. Ubiq is mounted on the dashboard of the tanker. Ubiq senses the filling time and the level of petrol in the tanker.
6. Ubiq feeds and uses the real time traffic data from the GPS device. Ubiq tells Rajesh which routes to take, areas with dense traffic and the state of other parameters which affect his journey. Ubiq provides audio-visual indications of the parameters Rajesh needs to track and as well as any conditions of alarm Rajesh uses GPS device in combination with Ubiq while driving.
7. He encounters the morning traffic, going towards the city. Bad roads and bumper to bumper traffic inside the city causes excessive idling of the tanker and aggravates Rajesh. Ubiq helps Rajesh by suggesting alternative approaches to the city. Rajesh sets off from the BP Refueling Center and is on his way to the first stop in the city.
8. Dhaval has real time data of other important parameters like excessive idling, fuel Dhaval can see how far Rajesh has traveled, on an accurate geographical map. Back in office, Dhaval is getting all the real time data about the tanker’s position, it’s movement, whether Rajesh is over speeding or not .
9. When he reaches a vicinity of 3 kms radius from destination, Ubiq sends an SMS to the owner of petrol pump saying that the tanker will arrive in next 10 minutes. One by one, Rajesh has disbursed petrol to 4 petrol stations and is on his way to the final one. Rajesh is closing in on destination#1.
10. Ubiq calculates the next optimal way to reach destination#5 and guides Rajesh to take an alternative route. Rajesh uses Ubiq to call other drivers on alternative routes to check the traffic density or traffic blocks (if any). Back in office, Dhaval verifies the traffic conditions on new route and updates drivers on the alternative routes. The owner of petrol pump at destination#5 gets an SMS. Unfortunately, an accident has occurred on the highway. It has lead to long queues of stationary traffic.
11. Rajesh now has the task of collecting petrol while coming back to the BP Refueling Center. Ubiq shows Rajesh his stops on the way to the BP Refueling Center. Rajesh picks up the petrol and reaches the BP Refueling Center the next day. Rajesh reaches destination#5 and disburses petrol.
12. Dhaval now has the daunting task of analyzing this data. Dhaval tracks trends in the data which clearly show him various aspects of the data and explain the relationships between them in an intuitive fashion E.g . idling time of the tanker leading to burning of excessive fuel, the optimal routes suggested by Ubiq, the erratic/unconventional route taken by Rajesh in collecting the petrol before reaching the factory. An entire day’s worth of Rajesh’s travel data is captured by Ubiq.
13. He is now sure of the improvements he needs to make. He can convince his superiors to implement the improvements right away, they can see for themselves the effect they have on the bottom line! With Ubiq, Dhaval creates monthly reports and uses the archived data to make sure that the tanker fleet is being used to it’s optimum capacity. Ubiq allows Dhaval to save a copy of the data, tweak some parameters and allows him to see the effects of his changes.
14. Ubiq allows Dhaval to define KPIs to reduce ‘empty mileage’. With the right tools and people, the company finds improvements to be made, without any additional costs! With real-time mobility, Dhaval now utilizes the fleet optimally. He works smarter and is less worried about facing unforeseen problems. Rajesh’s tasks have become easier and more predictable too Ubiq helps Dhaval to prepare for the planned increase in distribution orders next month and the optimal speeds and routes for a given set of conditions.
