Editor's Notes

  • #55 China has a long history of feats of public works. The rivers and frequent flooding have been very instrumental in the history of China. I suspect that the need to find a way to tame the rivers has influenced the political and social culture of the country.
  • #59 Carved in a cliff face where the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi Rivers meet When the earthquake struck, the Buddha was not harmed, even though the earthquake was felt in surrounding areas. Building the statue calmed the dangerous waters (debris from the construction?)
