Homer Simpson is portrayed as a slacker dad who is overweight, underachieving, and borderline alcoholic. He eats poorly, is balding and only capable of harming his children through discipline. At work, his tasks are menial and uneventful, yet he acts overworked and lazy at home on the couch. Homer represents how many real-life fathers act as unfit parents, exaggerated for comedy, but sharing some of their actual traits.
