Justification
1) Seeking to increase marketing opportunities for the meat of
Jordanian Awassi sheep through giving it a Collective Trade Mark/
Geographical Indication.
2) Need for improve the productivity of Small Ruminants at a
National level.
3) Need for supporting refugees and host communities to face
challenges and create opportunities to improve their livelihoods.
4) Contribution to the food security to the hosting communities
affected by the Syrian refugee crisis.

Target group
1. Jordanian women and men who are small-holder livestock
farmers for whom small ruminants are a source of income, food
security and a safety net.
2. The poor and extreme-poor Jordanian rural host community
households.
3. Syrian Refugees with a special focus on women and youth.
4. Livestock breeders belonging to livestock cooperative
associations.

Outcomes
•Establish a national plan for improved small
ruminants productivity in partnership with pioneer
livestock breeders and cooperative associations of
livestock breeders.
•Register the DNA of Awassi sheep in Jordan
•Improve the veterinary health services &
communications to livestock breeders
•Enhance Animal Registration & Traceability system
•Assess the potential of Geographical Indication and a
collective trade mark registration of Jordanian Awassi
sheep. Providing a road map to fulfill the technical
and legal requirements for the registry.
•Establish a Community system to develop pastoral
reserves.
• Provide new and improved feed mixes.
