Stanislavski placed great importance on physical discipline and movement for actors that was motivated by the character. He pushed his actors to draw from their own personal experiences to develop their characters in a way that felt truthful. Some of his key techniques included having actors analyze their character's overarching objective and motivations throughout the story, as well as using their imagination through the "Magic If" approach of putting themselves in the character's situation to determine how they would act. The goal was for actors to blend their person with the character in a way that did not feel like overt acting.
