Henry VIII ruled England from 1509 to 1547 and strengthened the navy and unified the country, but he is best known for his six marriages which were all in pursuit of having a male heir. His first wife was Catherine of Aragon who gave birth to Mary but failed to provide a son. He then married Anne Boleyn who had Elizabeth but divorced her after she was accused of adultery and had her executed. His third wife Jane Seymour gave him a son Edward but then died after childbirth. His fourth wife Anne of Cleves' marriage was annulled after finding her unattractive. His fifth wife Catherine Howard was also executed for infidelity. His final wife Catherine Parr outlived Henry.
