This document discusses the use of robots in libraries. It describes how over 25 libraries, especially university libraries, have implemented Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems to replace stacks and store their entire collections in a centralized location. It provides examples of robots used in specific libraries, such as Charlie the robotic book trolley at the National Library of Australia, and Vincent and Nancy which are NAO robots that join a makerspace program at Westport Public Library. The document also mentions how makerspaces and 3D printing technologies are becoming more common in public libraries.
The document provides an environmental scan of issues impacting academic libraries in 2015. It discusses trends in higher education including rising costs, decreased funding, and new technology-driven models. It also summarizes key issues for libraries regarding collections like e-books and demand-driven acquisition, streaming media, textbooks, and collaborative print management. The scan emphasizes libraries' evolving role in providing access to new forms of scholarship and assessing collections in light of metrics beyond traditional ownership.

NISO White Papers are contributed or solicited papers that address an issue that has implications for
standards development. White Papers can be viewed as a pre-standardization activity. A NISO White
Paper might define and explore some of the questions that come into play before formal
standardization work is started. Or, a NISO White Paper might identify areas that are opportunities for
standards development and suggest possible approaches. All White Papers are posted on the NISO
website (www.niso.org).

Title: Consuming Linked Data and Application Development: a case study on Shanghai Library Genealogical Open Data
The document summarizes trends observed in libraries. It discusses topics like data curation, linked (open) data, bookless libraries, makerspaces, library services platforms, and identifier issues. For linked data, it provides examples of implementations by the British Library, Europeana, and OCLC using Schema.org vocabulary. It also discusses the Bibliographic Framework Initiative (BIBFRAME) and initiatives like ORCID for uniquely identifying researchers.

Beyond Survival:Keeping Libraries Relevant in the Digital AgeTed Lin (林泰宏)
This document summarizes the changes that have occurred at Pitt Libraries between 1994-1995 and 2009-2010, including a growth in collections from 3 million books to 6 million books and a doubling of their budget from $17 million to $32 million. It notes that traditional library usage is declining while digital library services are increasing, with over 1 million digitized pages. The document outlines ideas for libraries to remain relevant, such as being user-centric rather than focused, rethinking their mission around serving people, reengineering operations, and collaborating on digital innovation.
