This document discusses diagnosis and treatment planning for removable partial dentures. It begins by defining key terms like diagnosis, treatment planning, and removable partial denture. It emphasizes the importance of a thorough patient interview and medical/dental history to accurately diagnose issues and develop a treatment plan. The document outlines factors to consider in the patient interview and examining the patient's mouth, teeth and bone. It discusses how various medical conditions and medications can impact treatment and the need to consult physicians in some cases.

This document discusses surveyed crowns used for combined fixed and removable partial denture cases. It describes the treatment sequence including mounting diagnostic casts, creating a diagnostic wax-up to determine tooth preparations and restorative contours, making tooth preparations and provisional restorations, taking final impressions, and the laboratory procedures for the surveyed crown fabrication such as performing a wax-up and establishing the path of insertion for the removable partial denture.
This document discusses balanced occlusion for complete dentures. It defines key terms like centric relation and eccentric relation. Balanced occlusion aims to distribute forces evenly across both sides of the denture during jaw movements to prevent tipping. Factors that influence balanced occlusion include condylar guidance, incisal guidance, occlusal plane, compensating curves, and cusp inclination. The document outlines Hanau's theories on achieving balanced occlusion through adjusting these five factors. Different types of balanced occlusion like unilateral, bilateral, protrusive and lateral are also described. The conclusion emphasizes that each case requires evaluation of all relevant anatomical and biomechanical factors to favor denture stability without harming supporting tissues.

This document discusses lingualized occlusion for removable prosthodontics. It begins by providing background on the search for ideal denture occlusion and defines lingualized occlusion. Key points include:
- Prof. Alfred Gysi first introduced the concept of lingualized occlusion in 1927 using maxillary teeth with single linear cusps fitting into shallow mandibular depressions.
- Lingualized occlusion aims to maintain esthetics and food penetration of anatomic teeth while providing the mechanical freedom of non-anatomic teeth. It utilizes anatomic maxillary teeth and modified non-anatomic mandibular teeth.
- The document outlines the evolution and advantages of lingualized occlusion and provides principles for its use in
This seminar talks about the dental surveyor and it applications in relation to Removable Partial Dentures and it also talk about the principles of RPD design, difficulties and management of free end saddle. finally the altered cast impression technique or also called Applegate's technique.
This document discusses the key factors involved in developing balanced occlusion for complete dentures. It outlines five main factors: 1) Condylar guidance, 2) Incisal guidance, 3) Plane of occlusion, 4) Compensating curves, and 5) Cusp angle. It describes how each factor influences mandibular movement and must be considered in relation to the others to achieve balanced occlusion without trauma to tissues. Formulas from Hanau and Theilmann relate these five factors and how modifying one requires adjusting the others to maintain occlusion balance.
The document discusses maxillo-mandibular records and occlusion for removable partial dentures (RPDs). It covers topics such as assessing the vertical dimension of occlusion, centric relation vs centric occlusion, different types of jaw relation records, developing occlusion schemes for RPDs, and considerations for complete dentures opposing RPDs.
Biomechanical problems associated with free end saddle denturesDr sirisha sambhangi
This document provides terminology and concepts related to biomechanics and distal extension partial dentures. It discusses lever systems and the three classes of levers. Removable partial dentures can experience rotational movement around three axes. Distal extension partial dentures function as class I levers when occlusal forces are applied. The fulcrum is located at the terminal abutment clasp. Soft tissue support provides less resistance to movement than tooth support. Biomechanical problems with distal extension partial dentures include increased potential for movement due to less efficient soft tissue support compared to tooth support.
Overdenture is a favored treatment modality for elderly patients with few remaining teeth. Roots maintained under the denture base preserve the alveolar ridge, provide sensory feedback and improve the stability of the dentures. Furthermore, the use of copings and precision attachments on the remaining teeth enhances the retention of the denture. This clinical report describes a novel method of fabricating a tooth supported overdenture retained with custom made ball attachments using orthodontic separators as a female component. Customized ball attachments with orthodontic separators are a simple and cost effective alternative treatment to the use of prefabricated attachments for enhancing the retention of tooth supported overdentures.
The aim is to restore the tooth to its natural form, function and esthetics while maintaining the physiologic integrity in harmonious relationship with the adjacent hard and soft tissues, all of which enhance the oral health and welfare of the patient.

This document discusses various methods for remounting dentures, including direct correction in the mouth, laboratory remounting, and clinical remounting. Laboratory remounting involves fabricating remount casts of the dentures and mounting them on an articulator to eliminate deflective contacts through selective grinding. Clinical remounting techniques include split cast mounting, which involves constructing the maxillary cast in two parts to allow for easy removal and replacement of the casts. The modified split cast technique is also described as a timesaving clinical remount method. Remounting aims to improve denture occlusion and patient comfort by correcting errors that occurred during the fabrication process.

A bite registration is made by having the patient bite into softened baseplate wax or modeling wax in order to record how their teeth come together. The wax is softened and placed over the teeth, and the patient is instructed to bite down normally until the wax hardens. This bite registration is then used to articulate study models to accurately reproduce the patient's occlusion.

The document discusses various aspects of tooth preparation for dental restorations. It covers principles such as retention, resistance and prevention of undercuts. It describes preparation designs for different types of restorations like crowns, bridges, veneers and describes finish lines. Biologic considerations like preventing damage to adjacent teeth and pulp are covered. Mechanical principles like adequate tooth reduction, taper, and smoothing of line angles are explained.
