этого автора, королева Виктория
пришла в восторг и приказала
немедленно купить все его
сочинения. Каково же было
удивление королевы, когда
оказалось, что это труды
Льюиса Кэрролла, чьим
настоящим именем оказалось
имя Чарльз Латуидж Доджсон.
3. В Оксфорде в те годы увлекались старинной
поэзией времен англосаксов. В декабре 1863 года
доктор Доджсон водил девочек Лидделл на
любительский спектакль в свой колледж.
Декламировали там и пародийные стансы.
4. Когда пришла его очередь читать, Кэрролл начал:
«Варкалось. Хливкие шорьки…». Гости
запротестовали, а он с важным видом начал
объяснять значение каждого слова.
Например: варкалось – это
вечерело и смеркалось,
хливкие – хлипкие, но ловкие,
шорьки – помесь хорька со
штопором и так далее, в том
же веселом духе. Сам автор
назвал их «джабберуоки» от
английского слова «jabber» -
болтать, тараторить.

5. Позже Кэрролл использовал это стихотворение как
пролог к поэме «Бармаглот» в книге «Алиса в стране
чудес», где оно было рассказано от лица Шалтая-
Болтая.

попытка ввести в язык несуществующие слова,
подчиняющиеся, тем не менее, всем законам
