The thyroid gland is located in the front of the neck below the Adam's apple. It produces hormones that regulate metabolism and other bodily functions. The thyroid is composed of two lobes connected by a narrow bridge of tissue called the isthmus and sits atop the trachea surrounded by various muscles in the neck.
