The flag of Sri Lanka features a gold lion holding a sword in front of a dark red background with four golden bo leaves. The lion represents the Sinhalese people and Sri Lankan bravery, while the leaves symbolize Buddhist concepts. The orange stripe represents Tamils, green stripe represents Moors, and red background represents Sinhalese. Cricket is the most popular sport in Sri Lanka, while volleyball is the national sport. In 1986, the blue water lily was chosen as the national flower of Sri Lanka.

2 vertical stripes of equal size in green and saffron,

represent Mettā, Karuna, Mudita and Upekkha. The
orange stripe represents the Sri Lankan Tamils, the
