My Journey to God
w/ RP thru Sport Fest
Hi, my name is
Trong – from RP
(Redemption Point).
Welcome to those
who are new at
Sport Fest
I am shy from
public speaking.
That’s why we
use these 9
slides
And this is
my friend,
Binh
Four years ago I was playing volleyball at a park with Binh. At the
time I did not know about Sport Fest, Christianity, or even Jesus
Christ. Binh invited me to play volleyball for RP for Sport Fest. I was
hesitant because I’m not that competitive but since my friends are
joining, I thought I would give it a shot. I had a great time practicing
with the volleyball team. We started to connect and hang out…
One day Bing invited me over to Bumble and Jenney’s house. This is
when I started to meet more people and connect with the community
at RP. Hanging out with the community peaked my curiosity about
Christianity, so I started to join multiple small groups. At one point, I
was going to 3 different small groups during the week. I was going to
join the 4th group, but it was for couples only :-)
This is “community
time” (hanging out
with small groups)
This is a small
group around
Christmas
Eventually with the guidance and support from RP I
came to believe and accept Jesus Christ die for our sins.
I was baptized after the third Sport Fest I played with RP
Before I became a Christian, I was a static person who was apathetic to
almost everything. I didn’t find it necessary to put my emotions into
relationships, school, sports, and situations in life. For example,
I would rather stay home play on my computer than go and hang out with
people. I didn’t understand the full value of relationships. Most of my
friendships remained at the surface level.
But now looking back I realized what I was missing. I lacked the
understanding of having meaningful relationships. Thanks to the
community, friends helped me realized what I need to do to grow as a
person. For example, I use to have a messy car (I mean really
messy). It was so messy that people cannot sit in the backseats. My
friends kept telling me to clean my car for the longest time…
..The fact is I know that my car is messy and I know that I need to clean it. But the
concept of someone speaking truth into my life is very foreign. I didn’t get close enough
to people for them to talk to me before. To be honest, at first I was a bit annoyed
thinking to myself “why are these people telling me this?” But then I realized that they
care enough about me to tell me what I need to do; because I know that they want me
to become a better person.
Because of these close, deep friendships I’ve grown closer to
Christ. And now I’m here.
With all I’ve shared, I want to encourage everyone to invite
your friends to hangout with the community at any RP events,
especially the Sports Fest.
