Spike Jonze is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. After graduating high school, he began his career working at magazines in Los Angeles before directing his first music video in 1992 for Sonic Youth. His breakthrough came with the music video for the Beastie Boys song "Sabotage," which won an MTV Video Music Award. Jonze went on to direct many successful music videos and commercials throughout the 1990s for artists like R.E.M., Puff Daddy, and Björk and companies like Nike and Coca-Cola.
