Zuhong Wu spoke to the City Hall Council to provide cultural context for why Chinatown rejects hotel structures in the proposed ARP development. He explained that (1) Asian and Chinatown culture emphasizes peaceful, quiet elements unlike hotels which can be noisy and unstable, making Chinese people feel fearful and insecure, and (2) ancient Chinese culture focused on agriculture and family, welcoming guests into the home rather than independent hotels, which contrast with modern Western industry culture where hotels stand alone. Wu aimed to clarify misunderstandings and provide cultural insights to help the Council move forward productively on the ARP plans.
