Sundanese Local Wisdom as An Act of Environmental Conservation
Assalamu’alaikum Warrahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
First of all, I'd like to thank Allah SWT, that we are all here on his permission, willing to
sit down and listen to our greatest idea as a high student -well, higher than a high school- to fill
our beloved world with our efforts.
Well, all of us knows about the first President of Indonesia, he said that -in Indonesian,
of course- "Give me ten young men, then I'll conquer the world." Here we are, the young people,
with many ideas to conquer the world!
Okay, that's enough for the spirit, now I will tell you about my ideas.
As we know, the environmental issues are spread up in the world nowadays. It's
because people have noticed that the earth could be broken by human's action and in the long
run it becomes behavior. "Let's Go Green!" being a popular words as a propaganda in all
regions, no exception in West Java, Indonesia.
In fact, West Java people who is known as Sundanese people have a method to
preserve the environment that we called local wisdom today. Those methods are "Planting
forests with woods, planting ravine with bamboo, use the flat land as farm, and use the trough
as pond", it covers how to have environmental components that supports sustainable life which
the people have been searching about it in this time.
Sundanese people have a philosophy that human and nature are an integrated
component and couldn't be divided each other so that people couldn't harm the nature because
it just like doing harm things to their selves. The philosophy is quite suitable with ecological
concept which is the relation between human and their environment are related to the behavior
of people to nature, it can become positive or negative so that people have a responsibility and
great influence to environment.

2. Hopefully, people can take some value from this local wisdom and apply it because what
Sundanese people did in the past were the act of environmental conservation that is really
needed currently.
So, that’s what I can explain today, thank you for your attention and I apologize for some
mistakes that I have done.
