The Arc of Monroe County has been serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1959 through 40 locations around the county. They offer day services and group homes to over 3,500 people. One of their most important services is Special Sitters, who are trained caregivers that assist individuals with disabilities in their homes. Special Sitters allow family members to spend time away while knowing their loved one is safe with someone who understands their needs. Anyone over age 14 can apply to become a Special Sitter after completing a week-long training program.
