What projects related to

currently working on
at Vanguard Natural
Resources?
Currently I am installing
plunger lift and gas lift
throughout the Woodford
Arkoma. Once installed, we
are using our SCADA systems
to optimize production as
well as reduce our operating
costs. This will lock in lower
operating costs as well as
mitigate higher decline
rates which results in higher
operating margins.
Your presentation
focuses on gathering
infrastructure and
artificial lift selection,
could you give some
insight into this?
Artificial lift selection and
gathering infrastructure
go hand in hand. Well bore
configuration, fluid properties,
gathering system pressures,
electrical infrastructure, and
communication infrastructure
all play a significant role in
artificial lift selection. It is
important to see the forest
from the trees and realize
that they are interconnected.
Finding the most cost
effective solution for the
situation is not always the
same as the most effective
form of artificial lift. Similarly,
the most cost effective capital
solution is not always the
most beneficial to optimizing
operating costs. NPV
calculations should dictate
capital implementation
which balances capital and
operating cost efficiencies.
Vanguard’s model is to lock in
long term operating gains to
distribute more income to our
unit holders.
What do you see as the
key artificial lift and
infrastructure challenges
being faced in the
Woodford at the moment?
How can this event
deliver solutions to these
challenges?
The key artificial lift and
infrastructure challenges
facing the Woodford lie
in the communication
between the producers
and the gatherers. It is
important that the producers
know what they want up
front from an artificial lift
perspective to make sure
that the gatherers build the
necessary infrastructure. For
example, centralized gas lift
distribution systems (high
capital costs) allow for a very
inexpensive (low operating
costs) form of artificial lift that
has a long operating life span
with the use of automation.
By connecting producers
and gatherers at events like
this they can see the other
side of the fence to better
understand how reducing
costs further increases the
pool of drillable locations and
ultimately produced volumes.
What attracted you to get
involved in this particular
conference?
I have been involved with the
design of implementation of
artificial lift and gathering
systems my entire career.
I have most recently been
involved with the scheduling
of the Arkoma Woodford
drilling plan and design of our
horizontal completions. Thus,
the marriage of the surface
and sub-surface worlds
and how each impacts the
economics of the other has
been of great interest to me.
Specifically the economics
of drilling and completing
new wells in liquid rich areas
with low gathering costs and
using modern completion
techniques are at the
forefront of my focus.
Our speaker faculty draws
upon a wealth of experience
from professionals in
the Woodford, including
companies such as
Evolution Petroleum,
Caballo Energy, Dorado
E&P, Anderson Energy
Group and many more.
