Controlling and reducing energy consumption
at your organization
The energy-saving concept
Energy management is the process of monitoring, controlling, and
conserving energy in a building or organization; it is the key to saving
energy, to moderate economic risk by reducing your demand for
electricity and make it more predictable commodity
• Reduce the carbon footprint and cost-related implications of carbon
emissions taxes
• Reduce costs by controlling & optimizing energy consumption,
promoting sustainability
• Reduce risk, the more energy you consume, the greater the risk
that energy price increases or supply shortages could seriously affect
your profitability, or even make it impossible for your business /
organization to continue.

How best to manage your energy consumption?
Typically this involves the following steps:
1. Metering and monitoring your energy consumption while
collecting the data.
Energy-data collection is to fit interval-metering systems that
automatically measure and record energy consumption, allowing to
identify personal patterns of power usage that it would be impossible
to see otherwise.
Such load patterns makes it much easier to find the routine waste in
facilities
4. TERAWATT intelligent Demand Response Technology

How best to manage your energy consumption?
Detailed energy data is fundamental to find rational energy savings

2. Finding opportunities to save energy and evaluate how much energy
each opportunity could save.
By analyzing the electric load diagrams one can find & quantify routine energy
waste, while investigating the energy savings that could made by replacing equipment
(e.g. lighting, chiller) or by upgrading building's insulation.
and also
Check whether staff and timers are switching equipment off without having to
patrol the building day and night. Verifying the interval details one can usually identify
what is causing the energy excess.

How best to manage your energy consumption?
Studying detailed interval
energy-data is the ideal way
to find routine energy
waste.
The rational use of
energy means the optimal
and efficient use of energy
and does not mean frugality
that affects the welfare and
comfort

3. Taking action
Targeting the opportunities to save energy (i.e. tackling the routine waste
and replacing or upgrading the inefficient equipment). Typically you'd start
with the best opportunities first, with proven efficiency, reliability and
faster pay-back.

4. Tracking your progresses
Analyzing your metered data one can see how well energy-saving
efforts have worked
After investing money into new equipment, you'll want evidences that
the predicted energy savings were reached
Energy-performance tracking reporting is an essential tool to analyze
metered energy data and allow to track improvements

Smart Meters
Smart meters communicate using wireless signals and
usually involve real-time or near real-time sensors, power
outage notification, allowing interface with EMS / iDR.
It’s an electronic device that records power usage in
intervals (30 min. usually) and communicates the
information back to the utility for billing purposes.

SMART GRID Smart Grid is a modernized electrical grid that uses
last generation communication technology to gather
and act on information, real-time and automated to
improve the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of
production & distribution of electricity.
Smart Grid may interface with iDR or BAS

BUILDING AUTOMATION Building Automation Systems are systems of
computer-aided tools used by operators to centrally
monitor, control, record and improve the performance of
the electrical building loads connected to the control and
scheduling applications (i.e. HAVC, Lighting, etc.).
Alarm management, set-point management, are BMS
applications with the purpose of alarm control &
operator alert to deviations from regular operating
conditions (i.e. temperature, equipment failure, etc.).
The ultimate objective is to prevent and/or minimize, physical and economic loss
through operator intervention in response to the condition that was alarmed.

LOAD CURTAILMENT Load curtailment programs usually involve an
agreement between the utility provider and an electric
power customer that typically agrees to drop the load
off the grid during periods of high power demand in
return for special rates.
Some BAS can also provide applications for this
purpose, transferring loads to the emergency
generator or partially by disconnecting some
equipment and/or reducing operation in a pre-
established criteria

PEAK SHAVING Peak shaving is a technique that is used to reduce
electrical consumption during periods of maximum
demand.
Most peak shaving solutions use generators and
paralleling equipment which allows the emergency
generator to real-time monitor the electric grid.
Peak shedding is commonly utilized to reduce peak
demand penalty that utilities charge for periods of
highest usage. The process starts by disconnecting
sheddable loads (i.e. hvac system, non-sensitive
equipment, some lighting, etc.).

Demand Response (DR)
DR is a component of smart
energy demand and categorizes
the process of changing electric
usage by end-use users in
response to electricity costs,
inducing a reduced electric load
profile and peak demand thus a
lower carbon footprint

iDR Terawatt Technology is positioned with the purpose of automatically reduce load
demand (kW) and active power (kWh) on facilities throughout an intelligent
management of the coefficient of simultaneity (meter synch algorithm), thus
achieving a lower load demand profile, reducing consumption, monitoring Plant’s
energy conservation, sustainability offering detailed energy-performance tracking

Tracking your progress at saving energy
With an innovative proprietary algorithm, Terawatt technology is able to generate
real-time projections (seconds) of user’s power demand during each consecutive 30
minute period (meter integration time) and produce on the electric network instant
optimization events according to a pre-established custom-made load profile.

Coefficient of simultaneity
Coefficient of simultaneity is the property of
two or more events happening at the same
time in a frame of reference.
It refers to the idea that the consumption of power may
occur simultaneously for multiple equipment in the same
period generating a peak demand that can create an
overload or a penalty in contractual power supply

Tracking your progress at saving energy
The algorithmic calculations of Terawatt iDR compares every second, real-time, the
power demand and consequently optimizes load by strategically optimizing selected
equipment thus reshaping the instant power and lowering the coefficient of
simultaneity during the in-progress power demand (30 minute period)
The result is a reduced integration value of instant power (kW) therefore generating
a adapted load profile with effective cost reduction in peak demand (kW) and in
consumption (kWh).
