Josh Rose created a two-minute audio sequence to accompany his final film project by editing a four-minute backing track. He used cross fades and cuts to piece the track together within the required time and ensured the music communicated with the visuals by matching piano beats to shot cuts. He also experimented with diegetic sound effects by lowering the music volume during a lighter clicking sound effect and fading the tracks in and out smoothly. The lighter and fire creation sounds were placed on the voice track and increased in volume over the lowered music.

Sound was one of the most complex pieces of my final piece.
Although I only used one audio track throughout as the backing
track I had to arrange this track to fit the two minute sequence.
The track itself was four minutes long so by using cross fades and
simple cuts I managed to piece the track together within two
minutes and the final piece of music ran smoothly. Also I wanted to
make sure that my music and audio track communicated with
each other and I did this by matching up certain beats of the music
with each cut of a certain shot. A common theme throughout was
that each new shot would be introduced by a piano key and I did
this by making sure each shot cut was perfectly lined up with the
piano beat within the music.

2. Within my sequence I wanted to experiment with sound transitions which meant I would introduce
some diegetic sound. To ensure that the sound of the lighter clicking was heard I had to cut the
music and bring the certain section down to the sound effect track. The gain and decibel level was
then lowered on this track alongside the fading in and out of this section. I then faded the original
music track out and in to guarantee that the smoothness of sound was continued and that the
audience were not effected by a sudden change in sound levels. I then had to take the audio from
the shots of the caveman creating fire and the young man clicking his lighter and place them on the
voice track. The decibels of the voice track was then increased to ensure the noise of the lighter was
heard over the lowered music. This set of audio then had to be fitted in with each shot to ensure it
was not out of sync and that the shot actually cut on the required noise.
