2. QUATIFIERS
WHAT ARE THEY?
Quantifiers indicate the quantity of a noun. They respond
to the questions, “How much?” or “How many?”. As with the
article in English, quantifiers define nouns and are
always located in front of the noun they define. Some
quantifiers can be used only with countable nouns, others
only with uncountable nouns and others with both.

We use quantifiers to express the idea of quantity or number. The
following is a summary of the various quantifiers and how and when to
use them.

WHAT ARE THEY?
As we just reviewed they are
quantifiers, but, they are very
commonly used ones. The use of some and
any is an essential part of the English
grammar, because they help us to
complete sentences with "There is" and
"There are"

USES
We use "some" (algunos/as o algo de) in
affirmative sentences and when you want to
ask or offer something. In this cases we
have to have a reference of of number or
quantity, we can use it with countable and
uncountable nouns. E.g:
- There is some water in the bottle
- There are some new people in the neighborhood
6. SOME AND ANY
USES
On the other hand, we use "any"
(algunos/as o algo de) for questions or
negative sentences (ninguno/a or nada de)
Remember that "any" is used for countable
and uncountable plural nouns. E.g:
Negative sentences:
- There isn't any meat in the fridge.
- There are not any good activities in town.
Questions:
- Are there any books on the desk?
- Do you have any brothers?
7. PARTICULAR USES
WE CAN USE "SOME" IN A QUESTION OFFERING SOMETHING:
- Would you like some cake?
- Do you want some milk?

WHEN WE DO A REQUEST THAT WE KNOW IS GOING TO BE POSITIVE
- Can I have some tea?
- Should we take some time off?
9. PARTICULAR USES
YOU CAN USE "ANY" IN SUPPOSITIONS:
- If I had any money, I would travel
around the world.
. Maybe if you had any food we could eat.
10. PARTICULAR USES
ANY ALSO MEANS "CUALQUIER/A" AND IN SOME CASES YOU CAN
USE IT IN AN AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCE:
- Any player in the game can make a
mistake in any minute.
