In the future, distribution networks will have to bear the
greatest burden in implementing the energy transition.
The move away from conventional generation based on
fossil and nuclear fuels towards renewable energies is
creating more volatility. Nonetheless, consumption
behavior is changing due to new technologies
(electromobility, smart home, storage, heat pumps, etc.)
and new supply concepts (semi-self-sufficient quarters,
self-consumption, tenant electricity, etc.). The
predictable purchase behavior of consumers is also
becoming increasingly volatile.
In order to counteract this development in terms of the
stability of the energy supply, it is necessary to digitize
and monitor distribution networks and, in the future, to
actively control and manage them also in lower network
levels of medium / low voltage. This applies above all to
the active prevention of network bottlenecks - regionally
and locally.
Regulatory requirements such as the Grid Expansion
Acceleration Act (NaBeG) with the regulations for
redispatch, rules for grid monitoring including the
exchange of grid status data between the VNB and the
DSO, amendments to the EEG and the Building
Electromobility Infrastructure Act (GEIG) equally for the
need for new technologies in network operation.
Currently used network control systems often do not offer
these new technologies of the redispatch planning
processes taking into account the network topology and
current load and feed-in forecasts. It should also be noted
here that adjustments are not only required in the KRITIS
environment of the network control center. The link with
the utility IT systems, for example in energy data
management, must also be implemented
In order not only to manage the distribution network in this
increasingly complex environment, but a holistic digital
transformation of the energy suppliers must also be con-
sidered.
