Carl Vilhelm Holsoe (1863-1935) was a renowned Danish artist, the son of famous architect Niels Peter Christian Holsoe. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen from 1882-1884 and continued his education at Kunstnernes Studieskole under P.S. Kroeyer. Holsoe traveled to Italy and received numerous honors for his work including the Mention Honorable in Paris in 1889 and prizes from the Academy in 1901 and 1908. His paintings often depicted domestic interiors and landscapes and were influenced by Dutch masters like Vermeer, known for their mastery of technique. Holsoe became a highly collected artist during his lifetime.
