The Solar System
Exploring Planets, Moons, and
Beyond
Introduction
• The Solar System consists of the Sun, eight
planets, dwarf planets, moons, asteroids, and
comets.
The Sun
• The Sun is a giant ball of hot gases at the
center of our Solar System. It provides light
and heat.
Inner Planets
• Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are rocky
planets located closer to the Sun.
Outer Planets
• Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are
gas/ice giants located farther from the Sun.
Dwarf Planets
• Pluto, Eris, Haumea, Makemake, and Ceres are
considered dwarf planets.
Moons of Planets
• Earth has one moon, Jupiter has over 70
moons, and Saturn also has many.
Asteroids, Meteors & Comets
• Asteroids are rocky bodies, meteors are
shooting stars, and comets are icy bodies.
Importance of Study
• Studying the Solar System helps us understand
space, planets, and possibility of life.
Conclusion
• The Solar System is vast and fascinating,
showing how small Earth is in the universe.
