Narrative Essay About Skiing
I open my eyes, and I stare at my clock and let myself wake up from the drowsiness that feels like it
s consuming me. My eyes focus and read the clock, it around 7:00, so I crawl out of bed and slowly
get dressed. It s not a school day, and my muscles relax as soon as I realize that. I drag myself
downstairs and feel my body function return as the sleepiness withdraws. I start my day off by
logging on to the computer and seeing what s new on youtube. Then my dad comes into the room
I was in and said Hey bud, we will be going to the skipark today . I feel a shock as I remember dad
saying something about it yesterday. I have mixed feelings about skiing, but I haven t tried it in a
gargantuan amount of time, I could barely remember the last... Show more content on

I mentally started to freak out, and i looked for an exit route, there was only one other one besides
going down the hill: this hill was connected to the smaller hill. I told my dad I m going to go to
the other hill. He gave me a stern look, and he went down the hill alone. I noticed i might crash if
I sled down to the slope shortcut to the other hill, so I took off the base of my skis and left the
boot attachments on my boots. One small step at a time, I slowly climbed down the shortcut. It
was so irritating and annoying I wondered if this was the best alternative rather than risking it
and going down the hill. When I finally got down the hill I thoroughly decided to stick with that
one hill. So I kept on enjoying the fast but not fastest speed. Lunch came and I went inside the
center and got a bite to eat. Isaac got pizza, and I got some aswell. The pizza didn t taste that
good, and I could tell it was very cheaply made, and I questioned why one slice was SO expensive.
After we ate lunch and became reorganized, I went back to the hills and went down them a few
more times. But then, the accident happened. As I was being hoisted up by the pulley machine
everything seemed normal, but when i got to the top of the hill, I noticed I was slipping as I let
go of the pulley. I tried to keep my balance, but that only made it worse, the base of my skis
interlocked. The head of one ski clasped onto the back of my other ski, twisting my foot
backwards in a frightening and unnatural position. The pain was immense and very sharp. I
quickly looked at what caused the pain and I saw it. I panicked, and because of the intense pain,
I screamed for my dad, who was a couple feet away from me, saw what was wrong, because I
usually don t scream in pain like that. In a few seconds, he saw the problem and rush to unlock the
base of my skis. He struggles with but eventually unlocks it, and he

Separation Anxiety Disorders
There are several treatment options for separation anxiety disorder in children. The golden
standard treatment of separation anxiety and other anxiety disorders is cognitive behavioral
therapy, also known as CBT (Ehrenreich, Santucci, Weiner, 2008). There are a couple of goals for
this approach that involve both the child and parent (James, James, Cowdrey, Soler, Choke, 2015).
These researchers state that one of the goals is for the child to be able to recognize their own
anxious feelings and their physiological responses when they experience anxiety. Another goal is
for the child to have an ability to identify and control their thoughts during experiences that are
anxiety provoking for them. Therapists want children with separation... Show more content on

Also, referrals can be made by the therapist for different mental health services, since individuals
who end their CBT treatment often worry that they ll have the same symptoms. These services will
be helpful for children and adolescents with separation anxiety disorder, since there are high risks
of suicide within this population (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
There are different procedures for CBT that can help children with separation anxiety disorder. A
procedure within this therapeutic approach that is proven to work for children and adolescents with
separation and other anxiety disorders is systematic desensitization, which is an intervention that
decreases anxiety and fears within an individual (Friedberg McClure, 2015). The process usually
entails experiencing something that is anxiety provoking to a client and pairing it with a calming
technique such as relaxation. For this intervention to be successful, hierarchies of anxiety for the
client must be established so that they are being met and all aspects of anxiety must be understood
by the therapist. A cognitive treatment in CBT is imagery, which is a form of relaxation that is
used for decreasing stress and providing relief to the individual (Cully Teten, 2008). This
intervention focused on the individual to gain back physical, emotional, and cognitive control of
their thoughts, and is really affective for forms of anxiety.

Representation Of Subgroups In Gifted Education
The main common themes noticed between all of the studied subgroups, African Americans, Asian
Americans, Latinos, and students from rural environments, are poverty and stereotyping. Clearly,
poverty and stereotyping are at the core of the underrepresentation of subgroups in gifted programs
around the country. Poverty automatically puts a student at risk, in that a family in a low SES
situation may not be able to put educationfirst in a student s life, and there may be little access to
resources of any kind, such as food, shelter, safety, etc. Stereotyping of these subgroups of students
may result in both students and teachers doubting the students abilities to achieve, a misalignment
of instruction and students needs, as well as potentially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the use of local norming when identifying students for gifted programs. As Worrell (2013)
points out, academic performance is substantially influenced by socio economic factors, and social
and cultural issues in the home and school, thus relative strengths are as important for identifying
talent as absolute strengths for students in under represented subgroups (p.392). It is important to
use local norms and opportunity based norms (e.g. similar SES, ELL, parent education levels) as
well as national norms to find the students that are achieving at the top of their subgroup. Another
strategy may be to use performance task to measure achievement, as they are domain specific,
assess fluency and complexity of responses, allow for multiple correct responses, focus on problem
solving, encourage the use of metacognition, and require a dynamic assessment approach on the
part of the assessor (VanTassel Baska, Johnson, Avery (2002). Instituting differentiation and other
instructional models in the classroom, as well as in gifted programs is a strategy that can be
utilized to ensure a student s specific interests and needs are being met with respect and knowledge
of potential social and cultural differences/backgrounds. Lastly, I believe that Rimm s Trifocal
Model (2008) could be a great strategy for supporting and encouraging success amongst these
underrepresented groups. Dr. Sylvia Rimm created her Trifocal Model to assist underachieving
students, however gifted students from underrepresented groups are just that, in some ways. In
short, Rimm suggests that we make school and education meaningful by accessing a student s
interests. For these subgroups, this could mean infusing curriculum and instruction with content
meaningful to their culture. Next, she states that parents and teachers should stop reinforcing
underachieving behaviors,

Analysis of Anselm s Ontological Argument and the Argument...
Roxx Alvarado
Professor Aaron Wilson

8 September 2011
Analysis to Anselm s Ontological Argument and the Argument from Evil The debate of the
existence of God had been active since before the first philosopher has pondered the question.
Anselm s Ontological Argument was introduced during the 11th century and had stood deductively
valid until the 18th century. Then there are the arguments to aim disprove God, such as the
Argument from Evil. The Ontological argument is an a priori deductive argument. That is, an
argument relating to being, that is independent of prior knowledge of the subject and with a
conclusion you must accept IF one accepts the preceding premises. St. Anselm of Canterbury
presents the Ontological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leads to the conclusion, if you accept the premises then you accept the existence of the greatest
being possible, God.
This concept of God s existence is also led with the idea that God is a necessary being, a being
that is not dependent of something greater in order to exist. If God relied on another being, like
how a children rely on parents to conceive them, then this being called God is not God because it
would be imperfect. Therefore, there must be another to call God that meets all the requirements
for perfection. One of the first popular objections was created by Gaunilo of Marmoutiers. The
premise and conclusion to Gaunilo s argument is identical to Anselm s argument except with the
replacement of the word God with the Lost island and the word being with island . As simple as
that, though Gaunilo s argument is completely absurd, Gaunilo s reductio ad absurdum also proves
to be as deductively valid as Anselm s argument. However, this Lost Island could in no way exist.
The absurdity and validity of the lost island quickly brought up questions as to how Anselm s
Argument cannot be absurd. Anselm s argument was not proven invalid until Immanuel Kant, a
german philosopher during the 18th century, proposed an objection that would be the decisive blow
to the Ontological argument (Immanuel Kant. Wiki). Kant s

companies. The policy can be a fee for service policy or a managed. Such policies are licensed
and regulated by a state board of insurance according to the state in which the companies are
located or the state in which they are incorporated.
2)Indemnity Plan/Fee for Service provides coverage for all medically necessary services. The
policy holder and/or patient may receive medical services from the provider they choose. The
provider is reimbursed for her services if it is the usual and customary fee. No fee discounts are
taken. The provider does not have to request preauthorization for services.

7)Outpatient insurance usually provides protection for emergency department visits and other
outpatient divisions in a hospital or medical facility, such as x ray, pathology, and physcologic

8)Major medical insurance offers protection for large medical expenses beyond what is established
by a regular health insurance policy. There is usually an added cost for this type of insurance
coverage.
9) Special Risk insurance A person can also obtain protection against a certain type of accident
(e.g., an airplane crash) or illness (e.g., cancer) through special risk insurance.
10)Catastrophic health insurance is among the least expensive forms of health insurance.
Deductibles are generally large for these types of policies. There also may be caps on the amount
the policy will pay in case of illness. These policies are only suitable for individuals with the
financial means to handle routine illnesses and hospitalizations.
11)hort term life insurance can only be purchased for a specific period of time. Coverage provided
by such policies ranges from catastrophic to comprehensive, with the latter being considerably more
expensive. Short term health insurance often comes with strict qualifying procedures and may not
cover preexisting medical conditions. (A preexisting condition

Corporations Law
Corporations Law can be described as the interaction between directors, employees, financier,
consumers and the community. Corporations law can be implied to this case as Water
Corporations, a government owned company had a responsibility upon entering into a contract with
Norvik Industries to provide an attention to skill when connecting the water line. To provide fully
trained employees to undertake this job. This involved double checking there work.
Tort Law
Water Corporations shows negligence, through incorrectly connecting the water to the wrong block.
This shows that they did not provide a duty of care, and attention to skill in identifying the correct
location of the block of land before establishing a water line.

Child Pornography And Child Abuse
When one thinks about child abuse, usually the first thing that comes to their mind is physical
harm or aggressive behavior. However, the issue is much more complex than one can think.
Usually, child abuse can be manifested in both physical and emotional forms. Childhood is
thought as to be like a garden, protected by walls and hedges. However, in reality, most children
are often neglected, abused and exploited. Child pornography and sexual abuse are two of the
most disturbing issues in the world today. Having a very international background, I was able to
travel around the world and learn about different cultures, especially those of third world
countries. I was able to see the immense amount of poverty, violence, and hatred in all these
countries, however, I have never thought about the amount of children that are forced into child
trafficking, abuse, and pornography. According to statistics, 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a
victim of child sexual abuse and self report studies show that 20% of adult females and 5 10% of
adult males recall a childhood sexual assault or sexual abuse incident. In my opinion, this is
horrifying and shocking to know that there are more people than one might think that have been
through some sort of sexual assault or sexual abuse. I have never taken the time to learn about how
dozens of children go through these traumatic and horror situations. Visiting orphanages when I
travelled to India and China has impacted the way I see the other half

Congenital Heart Disorder Research Paper
Your child has been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect known as L Transposition of the Great
Arteries, or Congenitally Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries. This guide has been created
to answer some of the more common questions that parents of children with this congenital heart
defect may have.
What causes this?
While genetic factors may contribute to this heart defect, it is unknown what causes it.
What is it?
In a child with L Transposition of the Great Arteries (l TGA), the left and right ventricles, or
pumping chambers of the heart, are reversed, and the large arteries of the heart, the aorta and the
pulmonary artery, are connected to the wrong ventricles.
This is very different from d Transposition of the Great Arteries, in that, the oxygenated and
unoxygenated blood still has a normal blood flow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children born with l TGA are not usually blue or cyanotic, and many may not even be diagnosed
until they are much older. The right ventricle in a child with l TGA must work harder than it is
designed to, and so its function may decrease over time. If there are other congenital heart defects
present with l TGA, the child may be blue, and a murmur (noisy blood flow in the heart) is usually
heard.
Does my child need surgery?
Many children with l TGA, who do not have other congenital heart defects or problems with their
heart valves, will not need surgery. Sometimes problems with the valves, the right ventricle, or the
rhythm of the heart can develop over time. It is very important that children with l TGA have a
cardiologist that can monitor them closely for signs of any problems.
What special care will my child need?
Children with l TGA may need medications to help their heart function better, to control their blood
pressure, and to help their kidneys get rid of extra fluid they may have. Some children may need
surgery to put in a pacemaker to help control their heart rhythm.
Do I need to limit my child s

Taking a Look at Experimental Music

components of music and creating new avenues for the composition of music. In the later part of
the essay, more shall be discuss on the area of experimenting sound and technique. Stylistic features
of each piece such as harmony, texture, timbre, form etc, will be presented alongside with the
examples of musicto allow a better understanding towards experimental music.
Charles Ives is an American composer which could be called as one of the founders of
experimental music as he was one of the earliest composers to look in to this avenue. His
inspiration for experimental music was from his father whom teaches him theory and
composition. He encourages Ives to go on the route of experimenting with sounds. Ives explored
new techniques regarding harmony, rhythm and form. Innovations could be seen throughout his
composing career but at the same time, he preserves some of the traditional rules. In his early
stage of composing, he wrote several polytonal pieces which means the use two or more keys in
different layers in his music. Ex. Varations on America. Several new techniques that has been tried
out by Ives includes the system of using all possible chords from a single tonic note creating
chords from intervals 2nd, 3rd 4th and so on. Below is the example taken from Processional.
Another of the new technique is the use of rhythmic layers. Ex. Scherzo: All the way around and

Roles Of Women In The 1920s Essay
After World War I ended in 1918, the United States became a world superpower with a thriving
economy. The 1920s was a time of prosperity, symbolized by technological advances, consumerism,
and leisure. Along with this affluence, came a movement towards modern values, and as people
migrated to large northern cities, these modern values became concentrated in urban areas. As a
result, an enormous cultural shift took place that greatly altered the lives of Americans, including
women. Women experienced significant political, social, and cultural change beginning in the
1920s, a decade which came to be known as the Roaring Twenties. The rise of the feminist
movement spawned a new way of thinking for women in what it meant to be a citizen. Previously,
women were deprived of essential rights available to men, like the right to own property, claim a
legal identity, or vote. Generally, women were dependent on their marital status, and expected to...

Many women worked in domestic and clerical service as secretaries, telephone operators, and other

women were criticized because they were said to be taking away jobs meant for men. Once the
United States entered World War II, most men enlisted as soldiers, creating labor shortages. This
increased demand for employees, caused women to replace men in the workforce. The persona of
Rosie the Riveter inspired millions of females to work in defense industries and support services.
Despite this surge in working women, many employers still would not hire African Americans,

Arendt would comprehend this issue to be similar to the Nazi Germany and the Stalinist Soviet
Union and Arendt would very much approve of Tariq Ramadan view because he understands that
once one falls into the terrorist scheme and discriminate towards the Western Muslims, it would be
very problematic and idiotic. This is where Ramadan has stated that; we need to be consistent as to
our condemnation of the consequences in our analysis of the cause and the principles we stand for.
Therefore, it is important to not only live together by principles and right but predominantly the

Her definition of thinking is not just simply using one s mind to form of ideas, but rather,
beyond the reflective mode of rationality (The Guardian, 2011). No one but the mind itself can

were in their righteous mind to say no. And of course, people believe evil acts could be based on
their own selfishness, greed and delusions but that is what Arendt would perceive it to be
thoughtlessness. Reflectively, the mind is very crucial to decision making and if evil is banal, it
is everyone s responsibility to remove it. Arendt has repetitively emphasizes that the mind is so
powerful to the point that it can be destructive and only the mind itself is our foe. This is generally
because if we were to ever stop thinking, we can be in the same position as the perpetrator ourselves
that cannot differentiate between right and wrong. Horrifyingly, I don t think we would even be

Mexican American Males and Alcoholism Drinking alcohol is a behavior that diverse ethnicities
and cultures have adapted as a form of leisure, celebration, socialization, or cultural practice.
Mexican American males have engaged in drinking alcohol for all of these reasons. It is important to
analyze the process of acculturation Mexican American experience and how it affects their ability
to persuade and control their alcohol consumption. The stress of adjusting to a new place than the
one they have been accustomed to and have already been accepted in, can lead males to drink
alcohol to help them in coping with their issues. The gravity of extreme alcohol drinking is also ...

Lastly, access to alcohol in Mexico is not a difficult obstacle to overcome. Therefore, males who
migrated to the U.S. have already been heavily exposed to alcohol. These points are not to prove
that alcoholism among Mexican American men is caused entirely by the exposure of Mexico s
customs, but to outline the different reasons why a male might fall in alcoholism. A male who
migrates to the U.S. or a Mexican American male that has lived most or his entire life in the U.S.
as mentioned before, might engage in excessive drinking because of the pressures of acculturation.
Dealing with the stress of leaving behind natal customs to adapt new values and behaviors can
result heavy alcohol consumption. Even though the Mexican culture has already shaped the
behavior of drinking in males, it is still different from the American drinking behaviors. Mexican
men drink less frequently, but more heavily, while Americans drink more frequently, but not so
heavily (Gilbert and Cervantes 1987). Clearly a combination of both as a form of dealing with
stress can be catastrophic. During the acculturation process the greatest amount of stress can be felt
when the feeling of loneliness starts to settle in. When a male feels he is distanced from his
Mexican culture and life style, but not accepted by the new dominant culture he has been trying to
adapt, he is more susceptive to alcoholism (Zimmerman and Roysircar

Why Wonderland Could Be Seen As A Dream

North London Book Of The Dead Character Analysis
The North London Book of the Dead is part of the compilation of short stories named The
Quantity Theory of Insanity (1991) written by Will Self. A British author whose writing is
characterised by a sense lightweight humor and fantastical themes, The North London Book of
the Dead follows the narrative of a son who had lost his mother to cancer, only to meet her again
alive and well in a different part of London. Instead of using descriptive devices to create an eerie

comic style of writing that reflects British culture and humor does not only further assist in

In addition to his encounter with Mother and how she had changed, her reaction to him pointing
out her dead status is also repeated from another of his dreams. He describes in his dreams, When
I tried to remonstrate with her, point out to her that by her own lights (she was a fervent atheist
and materialist), she ought to be gently decomposing somewhere, she would fix me with a weary
eye and say in a characteristically deadpan way, So I m dead but won t lie down, huh? Big deal.
Upon their encounter, the same situation had transpired: But Mother, what are you doing in Crouch

because of his third person objectivity. Whether Mother is a hallucination, a doppelgänger, or the

Nutrition at School is Important Essay
Junk food, junk food, junk food is around all corners of schools. Chocolate, cookies, soda, potato
chips, and Sour Strings may sound delectable to some people, but are they nutritious? Some people
wonder if there should be a change. Encouraging exceptional nutrition in schools is essential by
reasons of students will consume foods that are better for them, schools will pay less for meals, and
fewer students would go hungry.
Better nutrition in schools is critical being students will eat food that is better for them. Research
shows students that eat school meals are more likely to obtain a healthier weight than students that
bring a lunch if the school abide National School lunch program (NSLP). This shows that school
lunch is healthier by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
State governments gives reward to schools that give free reduced lunch prices, for example one
instance was in Wisconsin schools received $2,250 for each low income child in kindergarten
through 3rd grade using the NSLP. These schools are proof that this NSLP is cheaper and they get
extra money for each meal.
Encouraging better nutrition in school is important because fewer kids would go hungry. In
Michigan a child went to pay for his meal and his balance was unpaid so he was denied a lunch.
The minute the principal found out he decided to do a school meal program that had students
pay later or have lunch for free (Student Denied Meal Because of Negative Balance) This child
out of many could not afford a meal and the school did something about it by getting a school
meal program so no child will go without food again. The (USDA) U.S. Department of
Agriculture is an act that gives money to pay for low income students lunch. Studies show forty
present of families are considered low income in the districts (Bass and Free Lunch Programs).
This meaning forty percent of families cannot afford a meal for their children and a school meal
program will give food to those children who need a lunch. Studies show in Kentucky, which was
the first state to enroll in the school lunch program. Low income families are saving around $500 a
year (Free Lunch Programs). When these families are saving $500 a year the

The Structure And Support System Of A Person s Financial...
Banks are the structure and support system of a person s financial state. People rely on banks to
keep their money safe. Choosing a bank is an important decision and there is a lot to account for
when looking to see which one is most beneficial. While there are lots of banks to choose from,
Bank of America and PNC are two of the biggest and most commonly known. When it comes down
to which is better, PNC or Bankof America, the obvious answer is PNC.PNC has lower fees,
better benefits, and customers are very highly satisfied. PNC is more cost efficient than Bank of
America. PNC is one of the few banks that allow the option of taking out any amount of money. If
the consumer was to overdraftin a particular account, such as the Virtual Wallet, there is no
charge. When money is put into the account, PNC will take the money and credit the overdraft
amount that was charged in the Virtual Wallet. PNC declares the Overdraft fee to be 4 dollars
per day. PNC s Overdraft balance threshold is 5 dollars, continuous overdraft fee is 7 dollars per
day and as well as the Overdraft Protection Transfer. All other accounts are 10 dollars each. In
contrast, the Standard Overdraft fee for Bank of America is 35 dollars per overdraft charge or for
declined and returned transactions. Therefore, the Extended Overdrawn Balance charge is 35
dollars when the account stays overdrawn for 5 consecutive days. Next, the transfer fee is 10
dollars with Overdraft Protection. PNC s overdraft fee s are

Object 1: The Moon
Next to the Sun, the moon is the most recognizable object in the night sky, and is Earth s only
natural satellite. It has been estimated that the moon formed somewhere in the region of 4.45
billion years ago, just a measly 30 50 million years after the origination of the Solar System. While
there are many hypotheses that try to account for the formation of the moon, the one that is backed
the greatest is the theory that the moon was formed when a large mass roughly the size of Mars
collided with the newly formed Earth, this sending out planetary material into the same orbit of
the Earth. This material then underwent the process of accretion and formed what we now know
as the moon. With modern laser altimetry, scientists have been able to accurately measure the
topography of the moon. The most apparent topographic feature on the moon is located on the
southern pole, is referred to as the Aitken basin, and stretches nearly 1400 miles in diameter. This
is the largest crater on the moon and the largest known crater in the Solar System. Not only is this
the widest crater on the moon, but its floor is also the lowest point on the surface of the moon.
The dark spots that are visible with the naked eye are called maria, and they are actually hardened
pools of ancient basaltic lava. Next to the maria, the most commonly seen features of the moon are
the impact craters that pepper the entire surface.

Blood on the Steppes: Ethnicity, Power, and Conflict
In this article written by Weatherford, the form and use of ethnic identity is the core focus and
further elaborations has been provided on roles of various factors in shaping ethnic identities such
as, religion, economics, politics and so forth. Weatherford has also discussed the various usages that
ethnic identities may have: Men in pursuit of their own vested interests have used ethnic identities
as a means to reach their goals and interests such as wealth, fame and even sexual indulgence. The

Thus, he made himself the Turkmen National Symbol of solidarity and unity.
It s been argued in the article that religion has been most used when people are denied the right to
directly express their own ethnic identity or have to accept an identity other than their own. Militant
Islam has become the dominant form of identification and main route of resistance to central
government authorities. For instance, Uighurs were Buddhists who converted to Islam. Due to the
fact that in the presence of Chinese (Khan) dominations they could not express their ethnic identity,
they chose Islam to symbolize and identify them.
Some chose rather unorthodox methods to express their identity and symbolization as a factor that
would assert their identity was indeed different from the previously discussed cases. For instance,
a group was formed under the name of Reebok Mafia , although they spoke the same language but
they would differ in terms of the place of residence and ethnicity. Thus, they chose to wear clothes
products of the Reebok Company to be identified. In some instances ethnic identity has been used
to pursue sexual gratification. In the case of Kirgizstan, it is legitimate for a man and women to
elope or men kidnap the woman in order to marry them, the specific term coined for this tradition is
Bride Capture. In an interview

Onychomadesis Research Paper
Onychomadesis
Onychomadesis is the separation of the nail plate from the nail bed. It can often look like a more
severe case of Beau s Lines, and leaves the nails with a dull appearance. They will also have white
streaks down the length of them and feel very brittle. There is no discomfort, pain, or swelling with
this disease. A diagnosis is made through examination of the nailplate. The difference between
onychomadesis and Beau s Line s is that there is a complete stoppage of nail production with
onychomadesis. Onychomadesis may be a sign of a greater, underlying problem and is known to
be linked with Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease in children.
Causes
Onychomadesis occurs whenever the matrix is damaged and stops producing new cells.
Localized trauma can cause single digit onychomadesis, meaning it only occurs on one nail. Local
trauma can be any damage to the fingernail that harms the matrix. When the matrix is harmed, the
fingernails are unhealthy and will not grow. Multi digit onychomadesis suggests a systemic
problem such as fever, use of drugs, or viral infections (1 MD Edge). This disease can also present
itself after chicken pox. Onychomadesis is cause by a fungus in the family of Moniliacaea (3

Pavers Essay
If we say pavers , and you think of bricks, you are in for a surprise. Pavers are a huge part of our
hardscapes, and there are enough different types to warrant a whole page.
NATURAL STONE PAVERS: These may be limestone, flagstone, or shale. For more exquisite
tastes, consider marble, travertine, or granite.
CULTURED STONE PAVERS: If you desire the look of expensive stone but would rather avoid
the price tag, or simply don t want to have the weight of the real stone to deal with, consider using
cultured pavers. These manufactured replicas are just as durable, lighter, and less expensive.
Choices then break into the following groupings. Some categories consist of natural and cultured
options, while others, such as the permeable varieties, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While some of these are in overlapping categories, such as grass pavers or interlocking concrete,
that isn t necessarily true for all of them.
INTERLOCKING CONCRETE PAVERS: This style is another permeable paver, and they lock
together for a good, tight fit. These make beautiful patios, walkways, and driveways. Some are
standard shaped, but others are special shapes which interlock in beautiful patterns. The standout,
defining feature of these pavers is that they give a solid appearance. The materials, however, allow
water to seep through. This advantage is not found with all types of pavers, and sometimes this is
the reason to opt for this type of paver.
BRICK PAVERS: These kiln fired blocks are one of the most common types of building materials
,
and there are millions of homes around the country with bricks in the patio or walkway. They are
durable.
GRASS PAVERS: These pavers are an amazing technological feat. The purpose of these pavers is
to manage the rainwater, and allow it to move back into the ground while keeping the ground
stable and solid. They are beautiful as well, and can almost be an art form of their own. The
geometric shapes can be complex, or quite simple, but all are a beautiful way to enhance your
grounds while allowing a green space. These are wonderful for people who may have smaller

Saint Thomas Aquinas As A Man With An Unearthly Intellect...
Torrell Review Saint Thomas Aquinas is known by most as a man with an unearthly intellect.
Throughout his brilliant life, he produced many works that have helped defend the Catholic church
s position against many atheistic arguments, specifically materialism. Because of his gifted
intellect, at times, many may fail to recognize that in order for one to have such gifts, there needs
to be a desire and firm commitment in their spiritual life to submit to the will of God. In Jean Pierre
Torrell s proclamation of Aquinas spiritual life, Saint Thomas Aquinas: Spiritual Master, he
addresses the importance and explains Aquinas transcendent mind in two sections: A Trinitarian
Spirituality and Man in the World and Before God. This explanation is done is a similar style to
Aquinas himself, in which, he writes in an ontological order so that the later context can be
perfected by the earlier and visa verse. This overview takes aim and clearly orientates Aquinas
understanding of Nature, humanity, human society, politics, and fellowship through
communication with God and each other. Essentially, one can find that Aquinas thought is not only
rooted in the mystical teachings of the Catholic faith but is very practical and applicable to the
physical and metaphysical worlds. In order to proceed with further explanation, it is import to give
a summary of Aquinas s spirituality and theology, as Torrell does. The reason being, as Torrell puts
it, Spirituality is one of the vaguest terms

The Dynamics of Identity and Insanity in The Accidental...
In the plays The Accidental Death of an Anarchist written by Dario Fo, and The Government

the protagonist of The Accidental Death of An Anarchist , is seen changing his identity throughout
the play, pretending to be various other people. Khlestakov, the protagonist of The Government
Inspector lands in the position of being an inspector by chance, and throughout the play he

paradigms of basic human traits such as greed and curiosity leading to false identity. Nikolai
Gogol, like Fo had a hidden motive behind the changing identity of Khlestakov. He has created
the character of Khlestakov to fulfill the purpose of exposing the corrupt nature of local
administration. As, the officials thought he was the government inspector they tried to bribe

was the obvious motive of Dario Fo as well. Maniac: Yes, if I were a sane person. But I am mad.
I have a certificate. This dialogue is met with great laughter from the audience. Fo has created the
insane character of the Maniac to add to the humour of the play. He talks to himself as well as
non living objects around him. His dialogues are blunt and clearly reflect his insanity. At some
point his multiple identities is what leads the audience to think he is insane. However, there is a
thin line between insanity and wisdom. Some might perceive the Maniac to be crazy and bizarre to

The Overall Affect Of School Cancellations On The Class...
One thing that I learned this week was the overall affect of school cancellations on the class

arisen is the amount of snow days that Brewer Community School has had. Last weeks two

It is both sad and frustrating, as there was a tremendous amount of work put in to the planning
process. In the beginning I was looking forward to snow days, as they seemed like a break from
teaching, but now I look at snow days and think how much of a head ache they are. It is nice to
have a day off from school, but the amount of work put into planning is essentially wasted and
free time that a teacher could have had is gone. Therefore, I am no praying that there are no
more snow days and even if I am ever a teacher, I hope there is not, as time is wasted and overall,
all that a teacher gets out of a snow day is a headache from frustration and re planning. Looking
into the future, I believe that I will plan mini lesson plans for early release days, morning delays
and even try to modify lesson plans for snow cancellations. Mr Allen, like myself, like to plan
everything out and the thought of a class going ahead of another would stress me out, so in the
event of an early release, or even morning delay, I believe that I will have lesson plans for this
event that are connected to the material, but not essential. For example, a lesson plan that has
research time and then a class debate would be one. While another example might be a current

About 55 million years ago the horse we know now was a small animal standing 2 feet tall. The
earliest horse had pointed teeth which shows that it might have eaten meat. As you know the horse

Immigration Quota Law Of The 1920 s
Chicago s Al Capone. Prohibition remained law until 1933, just as the Twenty first Amendment
withdrew the Eighteenth Amendment.
The period between 1900 and 1915 is thought to be the peak of immigration. More than ten million
people came to the United States looking for a better future. The fact that these included Jews and
Catholics alerted older Anglo Saxon and Protestant American citizens. They also disliked the fact
that newcomers with their Old World customs, dared to compete for low wage jobs. As the tension
over immigration rose, a series of anti immigration measures were taken. Immigration Quota Law
of 1924 and a 1929 act, both of these laws limited the number of immigrants to over a hundred
thousand to be distributed among people of different nationalities as oppose to the number of the

The Road to Becoming a Teacher

The Road to Becoming a Teacher
Teachers bear the heavy responsibility of molding the minds of our nation s most precious
resource, its children. The road to becoming a teacher is a long one, involving post high school
education, people skills, and a desire to change lives. These traits, when accompanied by experience
and good techniques, form the foundation for an effective, life altering educator. Before anything
else, teachers must have a desire to impact the lives of their students (Education). Some teachers
teach because they want to help children learn and grow and would like to make a contribution to
society. Others have an intellectual fascination with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers must be ready to deal with an array of students with different needs. Their day usually
begins around 8 a.m. where they face the difficult task of waking up their tired students and getting
them ready to learn. They must find interesting ways of presenting the subjects that students often
find tedious (Princeton). Affective teachers use interactive discussion and hands on learning to help
students understand the material (School Teachers).
A teacher s day does not hardly end when the school bell rings. Active teachers are usually involved
in after school meetings, committees, assisting students, grading homework, assignments, and
projects, and calling parents. These tasks all require a certain amount of personal sacrifice (Kizlik).
There have been many changes in education. Even today, the face of education is being changed
and refined. Classes are becoming more and more less structured with students working in their own
groups. The idea is to prepare students to enter the workforce by teaching them the skills to interact
with others, adapt to new technology, and logically think through problems (School Teachers).
Even with the experience of the teacher training programs mentioned earlier, nothing can fully
prepare a person to become a teacher. According to Dr. Bob Kizlik, Each of the roles [a teacher
plays] requires practice and skills that are often not taught in teacher preparation programs. Not all
who want to be teachers should

The Problem with Teenage Childbearing in the United States
Teenage childbearing is serious social problem in the United States. The rates of teen parenting are

outcomes for the parents and their children. Many teenage parents and their families are unaware of
the disparities when becoming a teen parent. With outcomes of teen childbearing being identified,
teen pregnancyprevention needs to be further addressed. Addressing teen pregnancy and methods of

Micah Fischer Frances Coley December 2, 2014 Don t Be Left Behind: Consumerism and Social
Interaction in the 21st Century The essay Super Size It by Lisa Colletti is based on the premise
that American s cultural emphasis on consumerism has negative consequences reflected in rising
obesity rates which she directly attributes to America s prosperity and materialism, whereas I do
not feel consumerism has negative connotations, is the lifeblood of our economy, and is engaged
in by all classes to some degree. Today, people consume for necessity and pleasure. The act of
consuming goods may allow one to fit in, feel confident, or participate socially in shopping culture.
Consumerism has become a universal behavior amongst most people and... Show more content on

First I will provide a theoretical and historical background on the topic of consumption, then I will
discuss the following categories: symbolic indulgence, symbolic deprivation, and finally, the
convergence of classes. 1. Research and Discussion The five scholarly books examined are as
follows: In Longing and Belonging, Allison Pugh discusses the role of parenting and the effects of
consumerism and consumption on children. Foodies, by Baumann and Johnston, discusses how
foodie culture falls under the umbrella of both democracy and distinction. Consumerism, Romance
and the Wedding Experience by Sharon Boden develops the argument that the changes to the
Marriage Act in 1994 shifted the perception of a wedding to a consumer based experience. In
Orderly Fashion, Patrik Aspers discusses the social order in the fashion industry. In Sharon Zukin s
Point of Purchase, she examines consumerism through the twentieth century, which brings the
arguments of the above mentioned authors into synthesis. 2. Background History Inequality
between classes is historically rooted in sociological behavior. Baumann and Johnston describe how
amongst foodies, it was only an elite minority who took up the gourmet scene in North America
prior to 1960 (5). Consumption is, as it always has been, a socially embedded and embodied
phenomenon (Boden, 8). Consumerism and consumption now contains

In the area of, Ashford University and Clinton Iowa, tornadoes can occur at any time, but
primarily occur between the months of April through October. Tornadoes can be the most brutal
of storms. Winds speeds can reach speeds nearing 300 miles per hour and can destroy anything in
its path. Tornadoes form rapidly and can travel for miles along the ground and lift up from the
ground, and then suddenly change directions and touchdown again! There is little you can do to
protect your property from a direct hit by a tornado; however, many actions can be taken to protect
you and your family.
2.All campus buildings are equipped with a NOAA weather radio which broadcasts news of
tornado watches and warnings.
3.5 Outdoor Warning Sirens sometimes referred to as Tornado Sirens, are used in warning citizens
who are outdoors about impending danger. In Clinton County there are two main siren systems that
cover the all incorporated cities within Clinton County as well as several unincorporated areas.
Both the sirens that are part of the siren system located within the 10 Mile Emergency Planning
Zone or EPZ, for the Cordova Nuclear Plant, and the siren system installed and maintained by the
Clinton County Emergency Management Commission are part of a cohesive system that can be
activated in a uniform manner. All of the sirens can be sounded individually, in groups, or activated
throughout the county.

Police Rights Research Paper
During a preseason National Football League (NFL) game where the San Francisco 49 ers were
visiting the San Diego Chargers (now Los Angeles Chargers), starting quarterback Colin
Kaepernick decides to take a knee during the National Anthem. This one act set off a firestorm
that has echoed deep in the core of the American conscious. It began to show the differences of
this country in a new light. If human differences have their place, so also does divine unity. For
those who are in relationship with God, this unity must, because of God s nature, have precedence
over diversity, shares Okholm. What the root of this protest by Kaepernick? What did it say about
racial matters, and what fears did it drum up among people? These questions will be... Show more

Rah reference of Dr. Martin Luther King s letter, shows, The deep levels of racism, cultural
insensitivity, and cultural incompetence have yielded a deep seated rift between different
communities in the United States. Not only have explicit examples of racism generated animosity
and mistrust, but implicit approval of racism and a passive inactivity toward injustice have
perpetuated the racial divide. The knee goes deeper as this divide happens in America.
When the knee goes deeper, what did it say about racial matters? If the justice system had been
fair in its assessments of the incidents that happened across America, there would not be a
movement of black lives matter. If the justice system would have shown that all lives matter
when an officer is negligent with the discharge of their weapons against a twelve year old boy
playing with a toy gun in a park, and then found not negligible, all lives did not matter. In the
documentary, The Color of Fear, Victor makes a good analogy about the white experience. Victory
states, What is the white experience? When I look at you manifesting your white experience, I also
see you not naming it. I see you just want to blur the distinction between just being a person and
also most particularly being a white person and what that means. Regrettably, Victor s statement
shows that people of color are invisible to whites. Not to misunderstand, this is the view from
people of color. This shows

Internal and External Factors of Wal-Mart.
Wal Mart is a company that has always presented the image to go the extra mile to meet
customer satisfaction. They have been able to grow in times when most companies were facing
hardship. The implementation of walmart.com in January 2000 was a major step for the Wal
Mart organization. Their globalization, e business, and ethics have been essential in the success
of this and any company. Many people claim the ethics of Wal Mart has changed greatly, and not
for the better, since the death of Sam Walton, founder of Wal Mart. Globalization is the
application of making something worldwide. In today s day and age, as far as competition is
involved, Wal Mart has an advantage over their competition. They have grown so powerful in such

They also process returns, refunds, and rebates quickly. For the security conscience, Wal Mart
offers the latest in online credit card security. So shopping online can be convenient and safe
right from you home. They also offer a safe, secure and complete website where consumers can
purchase all of the same products found in the store. The website has proven to be a great
strength for Wal Mart. Not only is it a means for purchasing products, but is also a very thorough
informational site. Consumers can log onto www.walmartstores.com and search company
financials, find employment, learn about the history of Wal Mart, email the company about
problems, and learn about any recalls of products sold through Wal Mart. Ethics play a large role
in the success of any organization. The founder of Wal Mart, Sam Walton created a philosophy
he called the 3 Basic Beliefs . The first is defined as Respect for the individual, believing Our
people make the difference (Wal Mart 2004). No matter what color, background, or lifestyle, each
employee is treated with respects. The second belief, Service to our customer, is explained as
maintaining the lowest price and the best possible service. This is an attractive selling point to any
customers or potential employee. The third belief, Strive for excellence, is being about to adapt to
the changing economy by creating new ideas

Book Report On The Night Sky
Blog 13 5 online slot games that are sure to scare you
When the nights draw in, the night sky certainly makes for a beautiful sight. While that s the case,
the darkness of the night is also associated with the unknown. As has been said before, the
ghastliest of ghouls come out at night, which means fear is often in the air. Frights and scares are
something that we all are familiar with, which is why they make for great online casino game
inspiration. Halloween may have past, but that doesn t mean that the spooky goings on have gone
anywhere. Delving into the darker side of the world s online casino portals, we have compiled a
list of online slot games that can deliver plenty of chills and thrills this December.
No. 1 Nightmare on Elm Street
It is safe to say that you are going to want to put the kids to bed before you play this game. Based
on the frightening film that gave millions of people nightmares during the 1980s, Nightmare on
Elm Street is the type of slot game that you would have seldom seen before. Sinister, dark, and
brutal, this game certainly works wonders to debut the character of Freddy Krueger within the
world of online slot games. The movies were terrifying and the slot variation of the game is
certainly no different, with all 5 reels and 30 paylines coming loaded with blood and frights. The
games comes with two mega jackpots as well, so not only is Nightmare on Elm Street scary, but it
is also puts some super prizes up for grabs.

Lao-Tzu And Machiavelli Analysis
Lao Tzu wrote the Tao Te Ching back in sixth century B.C.E as he was exiling himself to a life of
contemplation. Before he left, the gatekeeper convinced him to write down his philosophical
thoughts. Machiavelli was an elite who lived in Florence during the late 1400s and the early 1500s.
He wrote his instructions, The Prince, during the instability of power within Italy after he was
wrongly imprisoned. Both texts give advice on the ways in which to rule a country, but because of
the times in which they were written, they promote separate ideas on the role of a leader, the view
of humanity, and the way their information should be presented.
The Master introduced by Lao Tzu and The Prince introduced by Machiavelli are two well
renowned embodiments of the perfect leader. A leader, according to Lao Tzu, silently leads his
people by allowing them to act and think for themselves. He even states, let go of fixed plans
and concepts, and the world will govern itself. The system of government, to him, seems to be a
democracy, reaching towards an anarchy. The Master embraces a role of quiet anonymity within
society as Lao Tzu believes, when the Master governs, the people are hardly aware that he exists.
If that is not achieved, then the next best thing is being loved, followed by being feared. On the
other end of the spectrum, Machiavelli believes in a dictatorship form of government. The Prince
must have complete and utter control over his citizens. Whereas Lao Tzu thought that a leader
should be in the background, Machiavelli believes in a leader that is feared above all. He states, ...
he should maintain himself in such a way that no man could imagine that he can deceive or cheat
him. Power is the goal of the Prince, in contrast to the enlightening of humanity that the Master
promotes.
Human nature, to both Machiavelli and Lao Tzu, is the foundation for all of a leader s decisions.
They differ, however, on how humans inherently are. Lao Tzu holds the opinion that people will do
the right thing when rules and guidelines aren t present in society. Lao Tzu states, throw away
morality and justice, and people will do the right thing. A leader, to him, shouldn t focus on creating
societal standards, because people

Three Presidential Elections
Presidential elections have and continue to be a time where Americans begin to pay attention to
politics a little more in depth, they look into the issues which burden America, and then decide
which candidate, in their views would fix and continue to grow the policies and programs which
are working to America s advantage. Presidential electionshave and will continue to grow and
change, but the past three presidential elections have seen many changes and have been very
different just in the course of 12 years. Although a lot has changed there are some major things that
have dramatically changed just from electionto election such as, campaign strategy and spending,

the deficit, also public services such as Medicare, Medicaid and social security. So as you can see

Analysis Of The Movie The Tv Series Californication
American Culture can be displayed in many forms in a variety of shows, but the TV series
Californication is one that expresses both the good and the bad parts about living in a modern
society. Californication is about a self loathing writer named Hank Moody trying to repair his
relationship with his daughter Becca and her mother Karen while simultaneously trying to fight his
sex addiction, his budding addiction to drugs and the inability to stop making bad decisions
(Kapinos, IMDb). This show depicts American Culture through the main characters lives through
tragedy, family, romantic relationships, and friendships.
Starting with Hank Moody, he is the main character in this show he is a successful novelist who
up and moves from New York to Las Angeles, California to turn his novel into a screenplay.
Which he ultimately ends up hating and is unhappy about it on many accounts throughout the
show (Kapinos, netflix). From the lack of motivation to write and the alcohol and drug binges
California has ultimately changed Hank for the worse. This really shows that there are bad parts
about American culture it tells us how drugs have become a normal part of some people s lives.
Hank can be described as intelligent, sarcastic, a smooth talker and a womanizer. Despite his love
for women and drugs Hank s ultimate goal is to be a good father to his teenaged daughter Becca
and the loving and supportive partner he should be with Karen.
Hank s life seems more like a downward spiral of

Menstrual Cycle
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Menstrual cycle is a process experienced by every female at one point in their life cycle. In the
olden days a young lady experiences her first menstruation in her late teens or early twenties. In
recent times, however, some begin their menstrual cycle as early as nine years. The age at
menarche (the first time a girl or a young woman menstruates) is widely considered as an important
landmark in sexual maturity. However it varies widely between the same people. These variations
has been attributed to a number of possible causes such as; advancement in technology, health care
delivery, weather and climate change, food, daily activities, socio economic activities, lifestyle and
many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite variability, most normal cycles range from 21 to 45 days, even in the first gynaecologic
year, although short cycles of fewer than 20 days and long cycles of more than 45 days may
occur. Because long cycles most often occur in the first 3 years post menarche, the overall trend
is toward shorter and more regular cycles with increasing age. By the third year after menarche,
60% to 80% of menstrual cycles are 21 to 34 days long, as is typical of adults. An individual s
normal cycle length is established around the sixth gynaecologic year, at a chronologic age of
approximately 19 or 20 years.
Two large studies, one cataloguing 275947 cycles in 2702 females and another reporting on
31645 cycles in 656 females, support the observation that menstrual cycles in girls and
adolescents typically range from 21 to approximately 45 days, even in the first gynaecologic
year. In the first gynaecologic year, the fifth percentile for cycle length is 23 days and the 95th
percentile is 90 days. By the fourth gynaecologic year, fewer females are having cycles that
exceed 45 days, but anovulation (the state of not ovulating because of a medical condition,
suppression by drugs or menopause) is still significant for some, with the 95th percentile for cycle
length at 50 days. By the seventh gynaecologic year, cycles are shorter and less variable, with the
fifth percentile for cycle length at 27 days and the 95th percentile at only 38 days. Thus, during the
early years after

company Hitachi Limited. The company employs over 6,500 professionals in over 50 countries

As a business to business service organization, HCC s value position is to Deliver measurable,
sustainable business results and a better consulting experience (Hitachi Consulting, 2015). I am
very proud of being a part of an organization that I can honestly say has, in fact, delivered
sustainable business improvement for client companies in our service offerings such as Merger
Acquisition Optimization, Enterprise Performance Analytics, Business Intelligence Performance
Solutions and Organizational Effectiveness solutions. In order to move forward in this paper
where I will be reviewing HCC s ability to compete on analytics, I believe it is necessary to first
define how I will be using internal and external as to not confuse with our external service
offerings. In regards to internal processes, as Davenport and Harris describe in Chapter 4 of their
book (2007), the focus here is on such internally facing functions as general management, finance
and accounting, R D, manufacturing, and human resource management. The analysis of external
processes is where things can get a bit confusing when evaluating

  • 2. Narrative Essay About Skiing I open my eyes, and I stare at my clock and let myself wake up from the drowsiness that feels like it s consuming me. My eyes focus and read the clock, it around 7:00, so I crawl out of bed and slowly get dressed. It s not a school day, and my muscles relax as soon as I realize that. I drag myself downstairs and feel my body function return as the sleepiness withdraws. I start my day off by logging on to the computer and seeing what s new on youtube. Then my dad comes into the room I was in and said Hey bud, we will be going to the skipark today . I feel a shock as I remember dad saying something about it yesterday. I have mixed feelings about skiing, but I haven t tried it in a gargantuan amount of time, I could barely remember the last... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I mentally started to freak out, and i looked for an exit route, there was only one other one besides going down the hill: this hill was connected to the smaller hill. I told my dad I m going to go to the other hill. He gave me a stern look, and he went down the hill alone. I noticed i might crash if I sled down to the slope shortcut to the other hill, so I took off the base of my skis and left the boot attachments on my boots. One small step at a time, I slowly climbed down the shortcut. It was so irritating and annoying I wondered if this was the best alternative rather than risking it and going down the hill. When I finally got down the hill I thoroughly decided to stick with that one hill. So I kept on enjoying the fast but not fastest speed. Lunch came and I went inside the center and got a bite to eat. Isaac got pizza, and I got some aswell. The pizza didn t taste that good, and I could tell it was very cheaply made, and I questioned why one slice was SO expensive. After we ate lunch and became reorganized, I went back to the hills and went down them a few more times. But then, the accident happened. As I was being hoisted up by the pulley machine everything seemed normal, but when i got to the top of the hill, I noticed I was slipping as I let go of the pulley. I tried to keep my balance, but that only made it worse, the base of my skis interlocked. The head of one ski clasped onto the back of my other ski, twisting my foot backwards in a frightening and unnatural position. The pain was immense and very sharp. I quickly looked at what caused the pain and I saw it. I panicked, and because of the intense pain, I screamed for my dad, who was a couple feet away from me, saw what was wrong, because I usually don t scream in pain like that. • 3. Separation Anxiety Disorders There are several treatment options for separation anxiety disorder in children. The golden standard treatment of separation anxiety and other anxiety disorders is cognitive behavioral therapy, also known as CBT (Ehrenreich, Santucci, Weiner, 2008). There are a couple of goals for this approach that involve both the child and parent (James, James, Cowdrey, Soler, Choke, 2015). These researchers state that one of the goals is for the child to be able to recognize their own anxious feelings and their physiological responses when they experience anxiety. Another goal is for the child to have an ability to identify and control their thoughts during experiences that are anxiety provoking for them. Therapists want children with separation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, referrals can be made by the therapist for different mental health services, since individuals who end their CBT treatment often worry that they ll have the same symptoms. These services will be helpful for children and adolescents with separation anxiety disorder, since there are high risks of suicide within this population (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). There are different procedures for CBT that can help children with separation anxiety disorder. A procedure within this therapeutic approach that is proven to work for children and adolescents with separation and other anxiety disorders is systematic desensitization, which is an intervention that decreases anxiety and fears within an individual (Friedberg McClure, 2015). The process usually entails experiencing something that is anxiety provoking to a client and pairing it with a calming technique such as relaxation. For this intervention to be successful, hierarchies of anxiety for the client must be established so that they are being met and all aspects of anxiety must be understood by the therapist. A cognitive treatment in CBT is imagery, which is a form of relaxation that is used for decreasing stress and providing relief to the individual (Cully Teten, 2008). This intervention focused on the individual to gain back physical, emotional, and cognitive control of their thoughts, and is really affective for forms of anxiety. ... • 4. Representation Of Subgroups In Gifted Education The main common themes noticed between all of the studied subgroups, African Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos, and students from rural environments, are poverty and stereotyping. Clearly, poverty and stereotyping are at the core of the underrepresentation of subgroups in gifted programs around the country. Poverty automatically puts a student at risk, in that a family in a low SES situation may not be able to put educationfirst in a student s life, and there may be little access to resources of any kind, such as food, shelter, safety, etc. Stereotyping of these subgroups of students may result in both students and teachers doubting the students abilities to achieve, a misalignment of instruction and students needs, as well as potentially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, the use of local norming when identifying students for gifted programs. As Worrell (2013) points out, academic performance is substantially influenced by socio economic factors, and social and cultural issues in the home and school, thus relative strengths are as important for identifying talent as absolute strengths for students in under represented subgroups (p.392). It is important to use local norms and opportunity based norms (e.g. similar SES, ELL, parent education levels) as well as national norms to find the students that are achieving at the top of their subgroup. Another strategy may be to use performance task to measure achievement, as they are domain specific, assess fluency and complexity of responses, allow for multiple correct responses, focus on problem solving, encourage the use of metacognition, and require a dynamic assessment approach on the part of the assessor (VanTassel Baska, Johnson, Avery (2002). Instituting differentiation and other instructional models in the classroom, as well as in gifted programs is a strategy that can be utilized to ensure a student s specific interests and needs are being met with respect and knowledge of potential social and cultural differences/backgrounds. Lastly, I believe that Rimm s Trifocal Model (2008) could be a great strategy for supporting and encouraging success amongst these underrepresented groups. Dr. Sylvia Rimm created her Trifocal Model to assist underachieving students, however gifted students from underrepresented groups are just that, in some ways. In short, Rimm suggests that we make school and education meaningful by accessing a student s interests. For these subgroups, this could mean infusing curriculum and instruction with content meaningful to their culture. Next, she states that parents and teachers should stop reinforcing underachieving behaviors, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roxx Alvarado Professor Aaron Wilson PHI2010 8 September 2011 Analysis to Anselm s Ontological Argument and the Argument from Evil The debate of the existence of God had been active since before the first philosopher has pondered the question. Anselm s Ontological Argument was introduced during the 11th century and had stood deductively valid until the 18th century. Then there are the arguments to aim disprove God, such as the Argument from Evil. The Ontological argument is an a priori deductive argument. That is, an argument relating to being, that is independent of prior knowledge of the subject and with a conclusion you must accept IF one accepts the preceding premises. St. Anselm of Canterbury presents the Ontological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leads to the conclusion, if you accept the premises then you accept the existence of the greatest being possible, God. This concept of God s existence is also led with the idea that God is a necessary being, a being that is not dependent of something greater in order to exist. If God relied on another being, like how a children rely on parents to conceive them, then this being called God is not God because it would be imperfect. Therefore, there must be another to call God that meets all the requirements for perfection. One of the first popular objections was created by Gaunilo of Marmoutiers. The premise and conclusion to Gaunilo s argument is identical to Anselm s argument except with the replacement of the word God with the Lost island and the word being with island . As simple as that, though Gaunilo s argument is completely absurd, Gaunilo s reductio ad absurdum also proves to be as deductively valid as Anselm s argument. However, this Lost Island could in no way exist. The absurdity and validity of the lost island quickly brought up questions as to how Anselm s Argument cannot be absurd. Anselm s argument was not proven invalid until Immanuel Kant, a german philosopher during the 18th century, proposed an objection that would be the decisive blow to the Ontological argument (Immanuel Kant. However, the issue is much more complex than one can think. Usually, child abuse can be manifested in both physical and emotional forms. Childhood is thought as to be like a garden, protected by walls and hedges. However, in reality, most children are often neglected, abused and exploited. Child pornography and sexual abuse are two of the most disturbing issues in the world today. Having a very international background, I was able to travel around the world and learn about different cultures, especially those of third world countries. I was able to see the immense amount of poverty, violence, and hatred in all these countries, however, I have never thought about the amount of children that are forced into child trafficking, abuse, and pornography. According to statistics, 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse and self report studies show that 20% of adult females and 5 10% of adult males recall a childhood sexual assault or sexual abuse incident. In my opinion, this is horrifying and shocking to know that there are more people than one might think that have been through some sort of sexual assault or sexual abuse. The 1920s was a time of prosperity, symbolized by technological advances, consumerism, and leisure. Along with this affluence, came a movement towards modern values, and as people migrated to large northern cities, these modern values became concentrated in urban areas. As a result, an enormous cultural shift took place that greatly altered the lives of Americans, including women. Women experienced significant political, social, and cultural change beginning in the 1920s, a decade which came to be known as the Roaring Twenties. The rise of the feminist movement spawned a new way of thinking for women in what it meant to be a citizen. A male who migrates to the U.S. or a Mexican American male that has lived most or his entire life in the U.S. as mentioned before, might engage in excessive drinking because of the pressures of acculturation. The minute the principal found out he decided to do a school meal program that had students pay later or have lunch for free (Student Denied Meal Because of Negative Balance) This child out of many could not afford a meal and the school did something about it by getting a school meal program so no child will go without food again. The (USDA) U.S. Department of Agriculture is an act that gives money to pay for low income students lunch. Studies show forty present of families are considered low income in the districts (Bass and Free Lunch Programs). This meaning forty percent of families cannot afford a meal for their children and a school meal program will give food to those children who need a lunch. Choosing a bank is an important decision and there is a lot to account for when looking to see which one is most beneficial. While there are lots of banks to choose from, Bank of America and PNC are two of the biggest and most commonly known. When it comes down to which is better, PNC or Bankof America, the obvious answer is PNC.PNC has lower fees, better benefits, and customers are very highly satisfied. PNC is more cost efficient than Bank of America. PNC is one of the few banks that allow the option of taking out any amount of money. If the consumer was to overdraftin a particular account, such as the Virtual Wallet, there is no charge. Earth s Only Natural Satellite Andrew Logan Dr. Richards PHY 161 5/1/15 Observing Project Object 1: The Moon Next to the Sun, the moon is the most recognizable object in the night sky, and is Earth s only natural satellite. It has been estimated that the moon formed somewhere in the region of 4.45 billion years ago, just a measly 30 50 million years after the origination of the Solar System. While there are many hypotheses that try to account for the formation of the moon, the one that is backed the greatest is the theory that the moon was formed when a large mass roughly the size of Mars collided with the newly formed Earth, this sending out planetary material into the same orbit of the Earth. This material then underwent the process of accretion and formed what we now know as the moon. With modern laser altimetry, scientists have been able to accurately measure the topography of the moon. The most apparent topographic feature on the moon is located on the southern pole, is referred to as the Aitken basin, and stretches nearly 1400 miles in diameter. This is the largest crater on the moon and the largest known crater in the Solar System. Not only is this the widest crater on the moon, but its floor is also the lowest point on the surface of the moon. The dark spots that are visible with the naked eye are called maria, and they are actually hardened pools of ancient basaltic lava. Next to the maria, the most commonly seen features of the moon are the impact craters that pepper the entire surface. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s been argued in the article that religion has been most used when people are denied the right to directly express their own ethnic identity or have to accept an identity other than their own. Militant Islam has become the dominant form of identification and main route of resistance to central government authorities. For instance, Uighurs were Buddhists who converted to Islam. Due to the fact that in the presence of Chinese (Khan) dominations they could not express their ethnic identity, they chose Islam to symbolize and identify them. Some chose rather unorthodox methods to express their identity and symbolization as a factor that would assert their identity was indeed different from the previously discussed cases. For instance, a group was formed under the name of Reebok Mafia , although they spoke the same language but they would differ in terms of the place of residence and ethnicity. Thus, they chose to wear clothes products of the Reebok Company to be identified. In some instances ethnic identity has been used to pursue sexual gratification. Throughout his brilliant life, he produced many works that have helped defend the Catholic church s position against many atheistic arguments, specifically materialism. Because of his gifted intellect, at times, many may fail to recognize that in order for one to have such gifts, there needs to be a desire and firm commitment in their spiritual life to submit to the will of God. In Jean Pierre Torrell s proclamation of Aquinas spiritual life, Saint Thomas Aquinas: Spiritual Master, he addresses the importance and explains Aquinas transcendent mind in two sections: A Trinitarian Spirituality and Man in the World and Before God. There is little you can do to protect your property from a direct hit by a tornado; however, many actions can be taken to protect you and your family. 2.All campus buildings are equipped with a NOAA weather radio which broadcasts news of tornado watches and warnings. 3.5 Outdoor Warning Sirens sometimes referred to as Tornado Sirens, are used in warning citizens who are outdoors about impending danger. Police Rights Research Paper During a preseason National Football League (NFL) game where the San Francisco 49 ers were visiting the San Diego Chargers (now Los Angeles Chargers), starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick decides to take a knee during the National Anthem. This one act set off a firestorm that has echoed deep in the core of the American conscious. It began to show the differences of this country in a new light. If human differences have their place, so also does divine unity. For those who are in relationship with God, this unity must, because of God s nature, have precedence over diversity, shares Okholm. What the root of this protest by Kaepernick? What did it say about racial matters, and what fears did it drum up among people? These questions will be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rah reference of Dr. Martin Luther King s letter, shows, The deep levels of racism, cultural insensitivity, and cultural incompetence have yielded a deep seated rift between different communities in the United States. Not only have explicit examples of racism generated animosity and mistrust, but implicit approval of racism and a passive inactivity toward injustice have perpetuated the racial divide. The knee goes deeper as this divide happens in America. When the knee goes deeper, what did it say about racial matters? If the justice system had been fair in its assessments of the incidents that happened across America, there would not be a movement of black lives matter. If the justice system would have shown that all lives matter when an officer is negligent with the discharge of their weapons against a twelve year old boy playing with a toy gun in a park, and then found not negligible, all lives did not matter. In the documentary, The Color of Fear, Victor makes a good analogy about the white experience. Victory states, What is the white experience? When I look at you manifesting your white experience, I also see you not naming it. I see you just want to blur the distinction between just being a person and also most particularly being a white person and what that means. Regrettably, Victor s statement shows that people of color are invisible to whites. Not to misunderstand, this is the view from people of color. This shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Lao-Tzu And Machiavelli Analysis Lao Tzu wrote the Tao Te Ching back in sixth century B.C.E as he was exiling himself to a life of contemplation. Before he left, the gatekeeper convinced him to write down his philosophical thoughts. Machiavelli was an elite who lived in Florence during the late 1400s and the early 1500s. He wrote his instructions, The Prince, during the instability of power within Italy after he was wrongly imprisoned. Both texts give advice on the ways in which to rule a country, but because of the times in which they were written, they promote separate ideas on the role of a leader, the view of humanity, and the way their information should be presented. The Master introduced by Lao Tzu and The Prince introduced by Machiavelli are two well renowned embodiments of the perfect leader. A leader, according to Lao Tzu, silently leads his people by allowing them to act and think for themselves. He even states, let go of fixed plans and concepts, and the world will govern itself. The system of government, to him, seems to be a democracy, reaching towards an anarchy. The Master embraces a role of quiet anonymity within society as Lao Tzu believes, when the Master governs, the people are hardly aware that he exists. If that is not achieved, then the next best thing is being loved, followed by being feared. On the other end of the spectrum, Machiavelli believes in a dictatorship form of government. The Prince must have complete and utter control over his citizens. Whereas Lao Tzu thought that a leader should be in the background, Machiavelli believes in a leader that is feared above all. He states, ... he should maintain himself in such a way that no man could imagine that he can deceive or cheat him. Power is the goal of the Prince, in contrast to the enlightening of humanity that the Master promotes. Human nature, to both Machiavelli and Lao Tzu, is the foundation for all of a leader s decisions. They differ, however, on how humans inherently are. Lao Tzu holds the opinion that people will do the right thing when rules and guidelines aren t present in society. Lao Tzu states, throw away morality and justice, and people will do the right thing. A leader, to him, shouldn t focus on creating societal standards, because people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Menstrual Cycle CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Menstrual cycle is a process experienced by every female at one point in their life cycle. In the olden days a young lady experiences her first menstruation in her late teens or early twenties. In recent times, however, some begin their menstrual cycle as early as nine years. The age at menarche (the first time a girl or a young woman menstruates) is widely considered as an important landmark in sexual maturity. However it varies widely between the same people. These variations has been attributed to a number of possible causes such as; advancement in technology, health care delivery, weather and climate change, food, daily activities, socio economic activities, lifestyle and many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite variability, most normal cycles range from 21 to 45 days, even in the first gynaecologic year, although short cycles of fewer than 20 days and long cycles of more than 45 days may occur. Because long cycles most often occur in the first 3 years post menarche, the overall trend is toward shorter and more regular cycles with increasing age. By the third year after menarche, 60% to 80% of menstrual cycles are 21 to 34 days long, as is typical of adults. An individual s normal cycle length is established around the sixth gynaecologic year, at a chronologic age of approximately 19 or 20 years. Two large studies, one cataloguing 275947 cycles in 2702 females and another reporting on 31645 cycles in 656 females, support the observation that menstrual cycles in girls and adolescents typically range from 21 to approximately 45 days, even in the first gynaecologic year. In the first gynaecologic year, the fifth percentile for cycle length is 23 days and the 95th percentile is 90 days. By the fourth gynaecologic year, fewer females are having cycles that exceed 45 days, but anovulation (the state of not ovulating because of a medical condition, suppression by drugs or menopause) is still significant for some, with the 95th percentile for cycle length at 50 days. By the seventh gynaecologic year, cycles are shorter and less variable, with the fifth percentile for cycle length at 27 days and the 95th percentile at only 38 days.
