Let's face it, you may find it useful
There's a bit of a 'social media' theme running through The Bugle in this edition so regular
contributor AMANDA CRUXTON-CHANCE, director of Flourish the Balsall Common-based
business development company, has jumped on the band wagon and says she is all for
making life easier, faster or just plain more organised and Facebook can fill that role…

IN BUSINESS
Facebook – love it or loathe it there are 1.62
billion active users every month, 29.74 per
cent of whom are aged 25-34, with 76 per
cent of users being female.
Thursdays and Fridays are busier with 18 per
cent more usage. Facebook has more users
than other social media like WhatsApp,
Twitter and Instagram, combined.
The purpose for telling you this, well for
business users you can tailor your posts and
time of posting to 'catch' your audience.
Here are some tips. We all know an
overzealous Facebook person who wants to
tell you everything about their lives in minute
detail morning, noon and night. Find it
annoying? Simply click the downward arrow
in the top right of their last post and click
'Unfollow….'
Unwanted
Don't worry they won't be aware that you
have 'unfollowed' them but their posts just
won't appear in your feed.
Similarly, should you receive too much
unwanted advertising where companies are
paying to boost their adverts, action in the
same way.
How to 'tag' seems to be a popular problem!
Tagging friends is a useful tool and there are
numerous ways of doing it. One way is to
simply type the '@' symbol and start writing
your friends name. A list of suggestions will
appear and click the one you want. Their
name will then appear in bold to indicate
they are tagged.
If you want to organise yourself and
schedule posts to appear on certain days
and times I find it easier to do on my laptop.
Start on your time line and write your post as
normal. Next click the 'clock face' in the row
of icons just under your post – this will allow
you to set the time and the date of your post
and it will be sent as scheduled.
Share
Ever posted and later noticed an
embarrassing typo then the 'edit' feature is
useful. In the post, click the top right hand
arrow which then gives a drop down list of
options. Click 'Edit Post,' amend the error
and click 'Done Editing.'
If you have a business Facebook page, why
not share the responsibility and assign 'roles'
to trusted members of your team.
On your business
Facebook page click
'Settings' which is
towards the top right
hand side. Next click 'Page Roles' along the
left hand column. Type in the name of the
friend, select from the list, click the role you
wish to assign to them and then save.
Stuck
The Facebook 'Messenger' tool is useful to
send individual or set up Group Chat text
messages or calls. You can switch off the
alerts if you want a bit of peace.
The 'Pages' app is similar to Google
Analytics. Great for business users as you
can track page views, page 'likes', post
engagement and your reach. That way you
can measure what kind of post creates the
best results.
There are lots to explore and if you do get
stuck - it can look different across your
devices phone versus iPad - then I'd suggest
a look on You Tube – there's virtually a video
clip to help with everything you need!

The Hollies Farm Shop on
the Kenilworth Road just
past the ‘George in the
Tree’ is a treasure trove
of fresh fruit, vegetables,
salad, and plants.
The new manager, Charlie
Barber, took redundancy
from his office job and
wanted to do something
different. He knew the
previous owner had retired
and decided to give it a go.
Eight months on and the
shop is growing every day selling a wide range of seasonal fruit,
vegetables, and plants and flowers.
As Charlie explains the produce is local and fresh, but not too
expensive: “We bring in produce directly from local farmers and
produce sourced locally through the bustling wholesale market in
Birmingham. This means that our stock is always fresh and available
at great discounted prices.
"Organic seasonal produce from local farmers is delivered directly
to the shop and is often harvested as required."
Charlie is always happy to expand his range, to stock products on
request, and take bulk orders. He has also started offering home
delivery.
*The Hollies Farm Shop is open from 9am to 5pm
from Tuesday to Saturday.
