During his twenty-plus year academic career Frank studied the social, cultural and historic aspects of
humanity. He completed his doctoral work at Northwestern University in the late ‘60s then taught
anthropology and archaeology, served as an Assistant Dean of International Education and managed the
SIU Fulbright Program. He administered several research programs at Southern Illinois University,
Northwestern University, and the University of Arkansas and published extensively during these years.
During these years he also sought treatment for alcoholism, eventually embracing AA through a local
treatment center and completed the 12-steps with staff and sponsor in the first year. Now with 33 years of
sobriety he actively participates in service work, 12-step sponsorship and attends at least 3-4 meetings a
week.
Sobriety led to a change in career focus.In the early 1980’s he soughtadditional training and certifications in
the Substance Abuse Treatment field at both the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of
California at Berkeley. After spending a few years working as an addictions counselor in Arkansas and
California he became the Executive Director of two non-profit behavioral health treatment and youth
education programs in the San Francisco Bay Area.
From 1996 through 2005 he was the Chief Operating Officer of Beacon Center, located in Denver, providing
a safe haven for adolescents who needed behavioral treatmentand a safe place to live. There, working with
DORA, he established an addiction treatment facility for adolescents. Now retired from non-profit
administrative work he serves as a counselor at CeDAR on the University of Colorado Hospital campus
providing care and comfort to those in this program.
International travel, horseback riding,camping,genealogyand road trips with his wife of many years provide
additional fun in his life. He has attended AA meetings in many obscure parts or the world.
Chemical Dependency Treatment and Human Services Career
CeDAR (Center for Dependency, Addiction and Rehabilitation) 01/2011-present
University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus. Volunteered through 2010, then hired as a Flex
Milieu Counselor (Behavioral Health Specialist). In addition to work at this treatment facility and taking
patients to court and medical appointments he offers Sober Escort and Sober Companion Services as an
Independent Contractor.
Arapahoe House (Addictions treatment and detox facilities in Denver) Winter 2009-2010
Did seasonal work as an on-call counselor working at their detox facilities and residential units for staff on
vacations and taking holiday leave.Keep treatmentnotes; assisted taking medical vitals,and collected urine
and breathe samples for ETOH and drug testing.
Arthritis Foundation Rocky Mountain Chapter - Denver, CO 2007 – 2008
Served as the Operations Manager for a chapter office of this National organization. This 12-person
office was responsible for information and referral services and fund raising for the Colorado, Wyoming and
Montana areas. Agency reorganized and he returned to the treatment field.
American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators 2005 -- 2007
Vice President of Operations
Served as the Chief Administrative Officer of a 501(c)(6) membership organization, overseeing contracting
and accounting,human resources, information technology and website operations, budgeting and finance,
and office operations. Coordinated the printing of material for workshops and conferences with other
managers and assisted and supported the CEO with board activities; attended board meetings.

Beacon Youth and Family Center Denver, CO 1996 --2005
Administrative Director
For about 10 years responsibilities included administrative oversight of all operations of this 80 staff
residential treatment agency for troubled youth.Oversightincluded vehicle fleet,buildings and grounds,food
services and office operations. Served as HIPPA Compliance Officer and Safety Officer. Helped to get
agency licensed as an Adolescent Alcohol and drug Treatment Facility by the State of Colorado.
Spearheaded the administrative componentofthe agency’s efforts to obtain Council on Accreditation (COA)
national accreditation, which was awarded in 2004. Co-authored a $750,000 grant from the Office of
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and provided fiscal oversight to this two-year project.
Youth for Service
Executive Director San Francisco, CA 1989 --1992
Hired to reorganize and revitalize the agency which provided educational & support services for low income
urban youth and their families. Initial focus was to develop new funding sources. Worked to bring its 30,000
sq. ft. facility up to city code. Introduced alcohol and drug awareness curricula. While serving as the
Executive Director of YFS his first wife died of cancer. After working with the board on a corporate merger
with the San Francisco Conservation Corps he left human services to travel and pursue earlier interests for
a few years as a Research Associate of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. These adventures
included an underwater archaeology projectin the Marianas, guiding tours through the Maya area of Mexico,
traveling throughout Japan and China and working as a Private Detective in Denver.
Napa Council on Alcoholism (Counseling and community education programs)
Executive Director Napa, CA 1986 --1989
Reviewed and improved all financial operations and supervised and trained clinical and clerical personnel.
Developed personnel and fiscal policies and procedures manuals. Increased fee collections 500%. Served
the minority populations’ mental health needs in a rural California county. Began offering services to Napa
County’s youth and elderly. Was a member of the Napa County Criminal Justice Planning Committee and
member of the Board of Directors and Regional Treasurer of the California Association of Alcoholism and
Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC).
Center Point, Inc. (A Marin County residential drug treatment facility)
Reentry Counselor San Rafael, CA 1985 --1986
Managed a co-ed halfway house for residents completing a six-month residential detox and treatment
program. Many clients were on federal or state probation. Several had issues with AIDS as well as
substance abuse problems.Continued taking continuing education coursework atthe University of California
and became a certified CADAC and CEAP.
Decision Point, Inc. (An alcoholism and drug addiction residential program)
Counselor and Employee Assistance Consultant Springdale, AR 1983 --1985
Trained and worked at this facility for two years doing intakes, counseling, providing detox services,
monitoring testing and becoming certified as an alcoholism and drug abuse counselor in Arkansas.
Administered a state contract to establish an EAP program for local businesses.
