In November 2017, National Gallery Singapore will present Century of Light, a showcase of two exhibitions focusing on art
from the 19th
century. The exhibitions offer visitors a rare opportunity to view key works from leading European museums
never been shown before in the region, alongside major paintings drawn from Southeast Asian collections.
One exhibition unites, for the first time, the work of two significant Southeast Asian artists who were active in Europe in
the 19th
century––Indonesian artist Raden Saleh (c.1811–1880) and Filipino artist Juan Luna (1857–1899). The other traces
the emergence of modernism in Europe through major Impressionist works from the collection of Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
Musée d’Orsay holds the world’s leading collection of French art of the late 19th century, including many of the period’s
great masterpieces.

The exclusive backstage tour with Singapore Dance Theatre will give audience members an insightful perspective
